  • Re: Bluetooth MD HeadSet

    Worth it or not?

Has anyone seen or used the Kellyco product?
    http://astore.amazon.com/detectors-2...977870-7830808

Wondering if they`d interfere with the detector? or would the null feature come into play,(sort of like the old metal bolts on coils)?

    Any thoughts on the headset?

    Ta.

    Response to Bluetooth MD headset

    My observations:

I've been running my detector with the bluetooth wireless headphone for 3 months now, and I really like them. The headphones run at 2.4 Ghz. Yours and most metal detectors are running at 3 Khz. to as high as 130 Khz., so there is no RF interference. Bluetooth technology is now used on most wireless products such as wireless earphones for cell phones, PDA'a (palm pilots), MP3 players and some microwave ovens, etc. When I MD, I have my cell phone ON, clipped to my belt behind me. My cell runs at 900 Mhz. So here I have three seperate items ON: my detector, cell phone and the headphones with no RF interference.

Something I noticed is that when you're running them for quite awhile, you'll hear the threshold from the detector drop out, then back in again. I noticed this when the batteries are getting low. When you detect, you won't notice the flashing blue light from the little white box (transmitter) when your outside in the sun. When the light is flashing from red back to blue, this means that the batteries are running very low. I always have a spare pkg. of AAA's with me just in case.

I use a shielded 6 ft., 1/8" stereo headphone extension from Radio Shack.

PROS: Very comfortable earcups; no head phone wires; no RF interference.

CONS: Uses batteries up very fast; plastic headband, CAREFULL!! may break.

Suggestions: 1) Try rechargeable AAA's to get 2 to 2 1/2 times more duration. 2) I keep my headphones folded out and stored to prevent headband breakage. 3) I use a 1/4 to 1/8 inch, 90 degree stereo headphone jack coming from the detector.

    Hope this helps,

GREAT IDEA. I've been using this for around three years now too, BUT there IS a problem!! Some commercial BT headsets introduce a delay, i.e. when a target is found, the detector goes BEEP, 1/2 a second later you hear it in the headphones, meaning the pinpointing sux. NOT a problem with minelab machines, they suck anyhow at pinpointing , but for better machines like Tesoro and Whites, it can be a problem. I tested 4 different sets BEFORE I found one which didnt cause this problem.

          Sean,

Good Point, though I haven't noticed a delay in pinpointing. If there is a millisecond to 1/2 second delay, you must have pretty good hears to notice it.

I use BT headphones by "Macally Bluewave" on my GTI-2500 with no hitch. You said that you tested four other sets (brands), was one of them Macally? Just wondering?
