  • Adding a 2nd discriminator to my Silver UMAX?

    Hey all,

Been lurking here for a while, trying to read and learn what I can. I'll be getting a Silver UMAX in the next few days, and was wondering what it would take to add a second discrimination circuit to the unit, which could be toggled on and off with a switch. Much like what the Tejon has.

For someone with even limited knowledge, it seems like it would be an eay mod, but unfortunatly not for me!

Has anyone ever done this mod, or that might be able to help me wire this up?

I know I'll need another POT of the same value as the existing disc pot, and a switch of some kind?

Would be happy to provide pics once the unit comes in if that would help?

    Any help would be appreciated!!

    Thanks,

    Jeff

I am sure it can be done with a toggle "Switch" for one notch setting or another , but not simultanous !!! I think the Tesoro Tejon and even the Fisher 1266x has a toggle selector switch . The Fisher 1270 uses a 3rd harmonic for multiple discrimination . For dual discrimination I think you have to have a programable notch button to store multiple memory settings. But your mod. with a switch can be done . Hopefully other forum members will see this post soon and correct me if I am Wrong !!! You have brought up a VERY GOOD subject here !!!!............Happy New Year and Regards.......Eugene52

      Hi Eugene,

Thanks for the response, I do appreciate it. Last night I grabbed some scratch paper and put down a few ideas, one which I think might actually work.

Once I get some time I'm going to open up the Silver UMAX and see what type of POT I'm going to need to order.

If I have any success, I'll be sure to publish it here.

      Thanks,

      Jeff
