  • Viper Trident housing ...

I got a Viper Trident (the one that sells for $299 at Kellyco) and frankly I am not impressed with the depth. (about 4" max on a coin) ... ...

However, the metal housing looks like it could be adapted to house another detector like a Tesoro Amigo or some such simple machine.
The two front controls (two pots and two on off switches) would be utilized but the internals and coil would be changed out.

    What do you think ....
Is that housing worthy of an upgrade or is there a better option available to make a waterproof detector?

Viper Trident is due Fisher-1266 clone. this is not only my opinion.

Same coil as on MD3030 (Griffon).
      I agree with KT315; MD3030 certainly looks like 1265/66.
Only difference is that original 1265/66 works very good...and MD3030 works worse. Huge instabillity when Sense over "6". But when adjusted lower and works stabille than it has poor performances.
Fisher 1265/66 is one and only.

ooops! I forgot to mention that Viper is due MD3030 model. if you will take front label off you will be able to read the writing. so... do not glue it again on place and throw the label on the scrap-heap...

MD3080A, I was mistaken... there are two versions of PCB - SMD and thru-hole.

              Housing

              Hi
How do you open the viper trident-MD3030 housing? I flooded mine and want to try to rescue it.
              Thanks

                hi,

remove/twirl off two nuts you see on ends of the housing. do this by your hands... do not use an metal instrument... yes, it may be seems too hard at first, but try...

If it IS an MD3030 it is a VERY detuned one.

I sold hundreds of the full blown 3030's (Yes they ARE 1266 copies) and I found the depth to be excellent. Only problem with the MD3030 is that the plastic is very poor composition and detriorates quite rapidly in the sun so they fall apart after about 14 months .

Oh BTW, from China the MD3030 costs $55 each, the MD3080 $65. Sorry Kellyco ripped off another punter!
