  • Dc to Dc converters to boost tx.

On a VLF detector such as a classic 3, Now What happens when you build a Dc to Dc converter to boost battery voltage from 12v to 24v and use that Voltage across the tx oscillator only. if you knew that the transistors could handle the power? The currEnt would be cut in half, but what would it do in general if I tried this on an analog vlf detector? I own a fire extinguisher. Thank you for your response------------- Doug.

If no problem to burn the transistor, then i believe you will have more depth.
Try it and tell us!!!!! but it is better to construct a amplifier to drive the Tx coil

      Hi,
dc dc converters are extremely noisy.

If use one in a sensitive MD you lose any depth cause of noise...

      There are other ways:
      - resonant coil-oscillator (eg. Relic Hawk like)
      - low freq amplifiers

      Kind regards,
      Max

        douglas,
to increase depth I suggest to focus on receive circuit. Even if you apply more power to Tx coil, depth will not be increased noticeably. And dc-dc converters are not the right method for this because of the noise they make.

Maybe a new detector is better
But more Tx power gives more depth if the coil Null is very fine.

Why do some classic units use 51 k for R49, 50 and others 100K? will more current to rx op amp help with sensitivity?
