  • Conquistador ground balance mod

    Hello All,

I have a Tesoro Conquistador which I purchased with a ground balance mod. The detector worked flawlessly, until the battery test/all metal mode/discrimination switch broke. I sent the detector to Tesoro. Tesoro replaced the 3 way switch, but also disconnected the ground balance mod. Does anybody know how this mod works? Pics posted.

      Not to hard

1st off moding can/should void your warranty. So be aware.
As stated , a wire has obviously been removed from the new control.
Also obvious is that the new control simply replaced a prior board mounted GB trimmer/pot - or a "fixed resistor".
The trick then is for you to obtain a schematic and see exactly which was the case.
Luckily Tesoro detectors are all repititions of the same building blocks - generally.
If you have the skills and are confident in your ability to tackle something like this there are several circuit drawings on this website in the SS/TGSL/Bandido project forum. A link is posted below. Look at the Bandido uMax drawing.
Any info obtained here is of course used at the viewers discretion as it may be possible the Conquestador is the odd duck that just happens to be different. I've never looked at one.
One thing to note is that Tesoro quite often used multi turn pots. The one that was used in the mod apears to be just your standard 3/4 turn pot. It will still work that way but would work more accurately if it were the multi turn. about 3-5 turns if I recall. The value of 50K max turn should be maintained.
      Best new year ever!!! Phil
