Lighter power pack on a 5900 di pro sl

I made my NIMH battery pack in October and I charged it for about an hour and a half. I have used the detector 4 times since then for 4 to 5 hours at a time and the batteries are still holding the original charge. I used it for 5 hours last Saturday.

I would like to revive this 3d with another idea.
What about n.2 li-ion AA 3,7 rechargeable cells (3800 mAh) and a voltage reducer (7,4v to 6v - max 8a) usually used for rc systems?
They are cheap, light and powerful...
