  • Goldmaster Mods??

I read a while back about some Mods for the Goldmaster V/sat. I can't even remember what they did, let alone what to do. Does anyone have any ideas.
Also, when I knock the cable connector the detector makes wierd noises. I have checked all the soldering and it looks okay. What else good it be?
    Thanks, Nenad

    Re: Goldmaster Mods??

    Nenad,
I have made my GMVSAT a chest mount, so I don't bang it all the time. Yes it does make noise when you hit the cable hard enough. I have used velcro to really secure the cable to the shaft of the detector. I use a cable tie(1/4")that mounts to wall. I drill the two holes bigger to be able to use the screw that the coil mounts to the shaft. This connects the coil cable down by the screw and rotates a hole section of wire to avoid wire fatigue. I also moved the coil connector to the right side of the box, so the coil connection is facing to my right side and not facing down and being pulled to the right. This was down to reduce the ware and tare on the coil connectors. There is enough cable inside the box to move the coil without unsoldering anything. Just making a hole big enough to fit the female plug.
Another thing I did was to move both GEB to the coil arm, so I would not have to keep looking at GEB adjustments and not the gound. This requires some soldering, wire, double pole triple throw switch(2ea),50k ten turn pot, and 50k pot. Larry Sallee in his first book Zip, Zip talks about using different approaches to be able to metal detect longer. Just follow the existing GEB and reroute the wires to the two switches to be able to switch to remote GED on the shift or use the existing ones. Doing this reduced weight which allows you to detect longer. The 50k ten turn pot is for the fine adjustment. The other is for the coarse. Hope this helps, Rick S

        Re: Goldmaster Mods??

The photo I tried entering a few months back I couldn't send it, but it worked this time. This is the insides of the standard concentric 10" Gold Masters series coil. The components are out of the coil. This should be actual size. The Rx and Tx guaged are located inside the coils. The small square on the top part of the coil is where rubber is connected to electrically connected the agua dag top and bottom of the coil covers. That is connected to the circuit ground. I will try to post the schematic on this forum. Rick S

I notice that not all of the drawing make it, so here is another try. Rick S

Thats is probably normal for the GM/VSAT. I have one and if you bump the cable it will cause it to sound off. Most of us have taped the cable to shaft and wound it tightly to prevent most of this from happening. If it works otherwise then it should be ok. Just shows you how sensitive it is.
