  • Tesoro Compadre modification - easy

There can be added panel mounted sensitivity knob very easily, because there are free solder pads intended for the potentiometer. Just remove VR4 trimmer and connect potentiometer with one resistor.

Add the slim-line coil connector also and I believe after that your Compadre is upgraded to Laser Scout or Cutlass MicroMax.

    Re: Tesoro Compadre

I see it is a different board than the Cutlass II or Bandido uMax.
Can you post a pic of the whole board?

      Re: Tesoro Compadre

If possible, I can show you how to get the ground balance tone to work.

        Great! Please show me...
I can do the PCB photo, I'll post it here.

          For example...

Since it is a different PC board, is there a spot for IC6 as it was on the previous uMax boards? If not, there is still a way by using a technique used on some older Tesoro's that did not use a seperate op amp for the threshold tone but rather tapped off from another point with a resistor and switch.

            Re: For example...

Unfortunately there is no spot for IC6. Receive amp and the two channels are the same as Bandido, remaining circuit is identical to Amigo. Don't know how to do a treshold sound without an additional IC. Silver Sabre has 2 channels also, but there are retune op. amps used. Which older Tesoro design do you mean?

Look at the Silver Sabre Plus.

                  Re: schematic

Something like that yes. But you have to disconnect the U3 ouputs possibly. In the Cutlass, that output is normally negative to squelch the threshold and only goes high when there is a target. Look at the Bandido uMax and you'll see a dpdt switch that disconnects the discrimination comparator.
                  Maybe break at R40.

                      Re: schematic

Thanks for the informations. Is there any way to do a simple no-motion modification for pinpointing button? I mean no-motion DISC mode.

HI, where do i find the Pots and Tesoro Knobs ?

Re: Tesoro Compadre modification - easy

Doe's adding sensitivity pot w/ resistor work well. I am interested in doing this, but wonder if results are good.

                          Thanks

Just found this thread, very interesting.

                            What is sensitivity technically?

In the Compadre design, the sensitivity control is really setting the discrimination bias. If you study the circuit you will see that there is a similar control in the GEB channel called "threshold". The "sensitivity" control is doing the same job in the DISC channel. In practise you will have noticed that increasing the sensitivity increases chatter. This is because increasing the sensitivity is analogous to increasing the DISC threshold, which decreases the ability to discriminate in favour of deeper target detection.
