Mod/repair DX-1 Probe??

Has anyone modded or repaired a DX-1 Sunray probe? If I tap the wire going into the probe it goes off even more. I am having a hard time pinpointing with it as it beeps all the time. It seems that the wire going into the probe is at fault.
I would like too fix this and shorten it too 6 inches instead of the current 9 inches.

If you are confident enough about taking it apart, and you can get some decent pictures of the workings, I imagine we can suggest a repair method.

Its very easy to repair, cut plastic tube and resolder cables, detecting probe is half shorter than tube.

Bringing this subject back. I am wanting to turn this into a hand held pin pointer, similar too others like the garret pin pointer.Has anyone done this before?
