Garrett S-4 fixed discrimination toggle to adjustable help

I have an older Garrett International S-4 VLF/ TR detector.
It has a two position discrimination toggle switch.
The lowest setting (bottle caps) is not low enough into the iron range to pick up modern Canadian clad coins that are made of nickel plated steel.

Would it be possible to mod this detector by replacing the toggle with an adjustable pot.
I presume some resistor values would also need to be changed?

I have a S3 and boy they look the same to me.

I would think sense there only switching in a resistor that you could just replace the switch with a pot.

Need to find out were and what that resistor is.

Mine has a blown Audio.

That switch on the S3 is a Double Pull Double throw type. Middle position is VLF/All Metal.

Yours must just put a Resistor in line or Parallel.

I need to replace the darlington I think.
