For this purpouses sometimes use OR (off resonanse) metal detectors.

Which metals do you want to detect? do you want to differentiate between ferrous and non ferrous? what is the smallest piece you want to detect?

I have one I Designed for use on Conveyours, But it Depends on numerous Conditions, as well as and the Size of the metal objects.

I also have one I designed several years ago to detect Gold Nuggets. It used a Garrett GTAx500, but could have used many other types of detectors. The trick was (mostly) building the belt w/ non-metallic parts.
