Small update; finally it is discriminating!
I have changed nothing, just used different adjustments in menus.
Disc must be risen to maximum.
GEB to 7 or 8.
Than button Down for re-calibrating and that's it.
It is now discriminating iron pliers from my workshop.
Discrimination is not perfect, at the very end of detection it can confuse and display "non fe.." and produce short sounds.
Also if i move and turn pliers in front of the coil; it can give false disc data on LCD and produce audio response.
Definitely not better but also not much worse than many other "discriminating" Pi detectors which i saw so far.
I guess i should try with different coils too.

Make a similar coil IMG_ 20151223_084716.jpg and if your 12 volt it back again 18. discrimination should be around 15.

AVRDUDE programming

Hi,
I just want to add my experience on ATMEGA programming.
Finaly, it's so easy to use the AVRDUDE programmer.
First, you must install WINAVR which content the AVRDUDE software.
Then, you must install the USBASP driver.
Once it's done, all you have to do is to build a converter between the 10 pins cable from USBASP and the chip (see picture)

To feed the AVR with HEX file (abc.hex in example), type "cmd" in the adress bar of your hex file folder and type :

avrdude -c usbasp -p m328p -u -U flash:w:abc.hex + "ENTER"
(programm) (Programmer) (Chip selection) (Writing command mode) (Flashing command)

For the fuse bytes, it's about the same :

avrdude -p m328p –c usbasp -U hfuse:w:0x99:m -U lfuse:w:0x24:m
(Those fuses are CLONE PI fuses !!!)


Program the HEX file before the FUSE bytes cause, if ther is a crystal oscillator on the board, the fuse bytes will be differents and you won't be able to program the HEX, exept if you put a crystal on it.

USBASP is not avaible as a standalone installation. You must install WINAVR to make it working.

If you have winavr installed why are you useing avrdude in comand line mode and not the GUI in winavr ?

Why dont you used extreme burner for avr for a hustle free burning your chip..no need for command just load the hex file then set the fuses then press write all. In just a minute you have already your program chip.

24 volts 7 ah is to high. It will make your 7812 super hot..try to used 20 volts and below battery.. Maybe your lcd display low battery because you are lowbat try to charge it.. For the coil error be sure that your coil connection is good and avoil using shielded coil.

Found something today.. This machine works on black sand and in heavy mineralize soil. By setting the delay to higher as 36-46 and integ is set to below 20 the heavy mineral in soil is completely eliminate. Butvthe payback is i really lost depth. For a 3 cm coin i usually sense it in the beach at 40-50 cm but today in heavy mineral soil i only get it at 27-35cm.
So conclusion is this machine works on heavy mineralized soil.

For anyone who has problem getting the 3 set of # 300 700 800 even they are using LF357 some problem is caused by a shield of the coil..and if you are using unshielded coil just also used unshielded cable..cable shield affect so much on that number even it is connected to the ground..
My only problem on this machine is the counter. I hope someday someone can cracked it and shared to me..anyway it is just for personal used..
