PICKINI V4 - an easy to build, self adjusting PI detector
This will only influence the trip point of the low battery detection by the PIC.
This is the point where the low battery tone is generated ( intermittent low sound ).
It will not help in limiting the inrush current upon battery connection.
The LM318 is also upside down..
This looks like the very first version that Arionas made. There were several improvements since his first post.
I sometimes wonder why I went through all the trouble of providing a simple, fool-proof design, when the first thing that people do is make their own version of it and then complain it doesn't work.
Please have a look at the original documentation:
Thanks. It looks like what happened was I downloded the files from your website, then as the thread progressed downloaded the arionas files into another folder, both named similar. When i got around to workin on it opened and used the wrong set of files... well, it wont be tough to fix. Also i placed the socket for the 318 correctly, it wouldnt work the other way and that was easily noticed, just figured it was a pcb image mistake.
Unfortunately Li ion with 10R series resistor and switch is not working, first switch on, 2nd switch will off immediately.
I found NTC 3, 5 and 10R... seems work normal but no, the MD just make beep..beep continuously after auto tune tick, behave like its doesn't have enough power.
Solved. Put 3R ntc or 2ohm resistor at boost converter output will solve the problem, i dont know if this will effect another function, but its seem normal...
Eclipse, thanks so much for your post above about the PK2DeviceFile.dat substitution! Your post was very helpful.
If you are using the PICkit 2 programmer, as he noted, download his file and rename it PK2DeviceFile.dat in the directory Program Files (x86)\Microchip\PICkit 2 v2\
In the PICkit 2 software, choose "Device Family", then "Midrange" then "1.8V Min". The 16F1824 can then be chosen. You will also have to import the source code from F117's files to burn the PIC.
If you are using the Enhanced PICkit 2 as the programmer the connections to the 16F1824 pins are:
I hooked my new board up tonight, but it's not detecting after connecting it to one of my PI coils. Here are my voltages at the pins for 16F1824 and LM318
I may be having the same problem that ripsdevala had--high voltage on pin 5 of the LM318 because of an improperly oriented BS170. I'm using a Fairfield BS170 that has a DGS pattern on the flat side. See photo below.
I have also attached a photo of my board with the flat side of the Fairfield BS170 pointing at the 2200uF cap. Should I change the orientation of the BS170 so the flat side faces away from the 2200uF cap? Or can someone tell me what is the proper order of D-G-S on the PCB?
Right now, I'm hearing the opening tones when I connect 12 volts to the board and a continuing slow click, but nothing else.
Power on -> welcome sound -> slow tick -> and do you hear a constant low tone after about 30 s ?
No, I hear just the welcome tones and then the slow tick. If I press the momentary switch, the process starts over with the welcome tone. Just curious, what is the frequency of the low tone?
What momentary switch? The pinpoint switch ? This should not reset the controller.
Yes, when I press it, the PIC resets. I'm going to trace the entire circuit out and see if I have a bad solder joint. I'll report back what I find. Thanks for your help.
Don't press pin point switch when first start tuning, not long before 20sec you will hear small noise, indicate the md is ready to use, otherwise check your battery.
