  • Vandal Pulse 4

I just bought one of the first Vandal Pulse 4 kits from Crazy-tech.net earlier this year. I have not assembled it into a housing yet, but am looking to see if it would make a good detector for underwater use?

I can build my own custom housing with push button controls, so that I can operate the controls underwater. I bought one coil already made and then an additional 31cm DD housing to make a larger coil.

Coil specs need to be R= 3-3.5 ohm and L= 400-600uh.

I also want to build a 3'x 3' coil for it.

Any suggestions for wire to use and numbers of turns for the 31cm and 3'x3' coils?

I found the specs for the 3'x3' coil. They are 0.5-0.7mm enameled copper wire with 12 turns. I will use the coil calculator to figure out the 31cm version. The empty housing can be used for DD or standard round coil. Most PI machines don't use DD, so I will just wind it round.

Still want to know if anyone thinks this machine would be good for saltwater use? I plan on making a waterproof housing for it.

Typical of PI detectors in salt water is a slowing of the decay.
This is commonly countered by increasing the sampling delay.

Thanks Walter. This unit has a operating frequency of 300Hz and pulse width to 500uS. I can set the timing, with them recommending 7-10. The unit has five settings: Power/Timing with the main pulse width up to 500uS, Ground value 1-20, Sensitivity 1-20, Disc Value 0-20, and Threshold of 0-50. The unit only comes with a piezo speaker, so I want to see how I can adapt it to regular headphones for land use and maybe use my underwater headphones from my Garrett XL500 Seahunter for use underwater.
