  • Eric Foster Pulsepower Goldquest Aquasearch V2 PI Metal Detector

I just purchased a Goldquest Aquasearch V2 PI, with 8" coil, on ebay. It is in like new condition. Can anyone give me any idea what it's worth or any additional information on the machine. From what I've read it is suppose to be a good machine.

A while back I bought a GoldQuest SS (non-waterproof) with 2 coils and some spare parts for, as I recall, $700-800. I intend to sell it for that or maybe a little less, I only bought it for testing. I do own a Foster-made BeachScan MkII and Goldscan 5. Eric makes excellent detectors that perform well. I think the GoldQuest runs 10kHz and is more optimized for small jewelry than raw depth. I expect you'll like it if beach hunting is your game.

Thanks Carl, I am just getting into using PI machines. I mostly hunt in the water in the Florida panhandle. When it comes to PI's I have a lot to learn.

That was my old stomping grounds... grew up in Tallahassee, used to occasionally hit the beaches from Port St Joe to PCB.

I have one--good gold optimization but not as deep as a Dual Field. Try running it 10 o'clock Delay 10 Oclock SAT. Very stable machine as well. Take care of the gasket they cannot be replaced. They are rare to the extent of being very, very hard to get fixed. If you want to trade it in for something more recent let me know. If you search it--my book will come up.

I just ordered 2 of your books off of your gold page. I'm looking forward to learning from your experience.

I'm located in Pensacola and work local beaches. I'm retired now and looking to do some traveling just to metal detect.

Nice--and with a bit of practice and some solid basics the GQA2is just the machine to get you down to where the heavy ones live. Just watch your re-sealing--a lot of new hunters are not used to a detector that requires opening every time you change the cells. And if you ever want to sell...I would probably be interested.
                Good Luck,

                  Hi Clive,

Slightly off topic, but I have not forgotten your coil. I measured the one you sent with the disconnected shield and it is 300uH. A TDi coil will work fine, or any other 300uH (or thereabouts) coil. I have not made any coils lately as have moved house and workshop. Only just now are getting organised again to doing some detector work which will include making and potting some coils. Have tried some new wire called ECOwire. 19/0.1 and thinner insulation with better dielectric constant than PVC. Looks good.

                  Eric.

Hi Eric Not off topic for me--thanks for the update. That's the best coil I've ever had be interested to see it improved on. Thanks also for letting me know what will work in the mean time --will look around. Hey while I have your ear--can you give me any idea why my GQA2 blares unless the SAT is full on? I've tried changing the pot. Do I dare fiddle with the internals?
                      Kind Regards

If its AlpaWire EcoWire I've made a coil with it 2 years ago. Very thin mPPE insulation, good dielectric constant. Very expensive but high quality wire which can be seen even just by touching it. I like using it for internal connections because its sturdy, military grade quality.

I've not seen the boards but based on his designs i bet there is a problem with the J113 that nulls the SAT stage when no signal.

HI Eric Would that include a GQA2 coil that can be used as a substitute meantime?
