not sure I should be giving board photos of someone else's work.

Its like saying taking pictures of your cars engine will upset the auto maker. Not sure what board photos will do but who knows maybe the future in reverse engineering could allow us to clone circuits without desoldering all of the components first...

I am sure Eric will not mind at all.
            No harm done.

Board photos would be nice but the nuts and bolt of this detector are easily determinable by looking at the cscope cs6 PI, which has been thoroughly reverse engineered.
People just like to look under the hood. It's like tech porn to amateurs and engineers alike.

does anyone know if the CS6 and GQA2 coils are interchangeable? This would give me a reason to disassemble. Just that Im a detector wrecker and try to avoid the risk.

                    Hi All,
I have no objection at all to the pictures of the board being posted, or indeed the schematic. After all, this is an old design and things have moved on a lot technically in the years since. I have the relevant coils here for the CS4, CS6, Aquasearch and GQ SS so I can check on their inductances, winding resistance etc. Inductance probably was changed at some point to a lower value to enable sampling at 10uS.

To Eclipse. What problem do you suspect with the J113 in the auto-zero circuit? Always worked fine in many designs.

                    Eric.

                      Eric.

What I wrote "I've not seen the boards but based on his designs i bet there is a problem with the J113 that nulls the SAT stage when no signal." was posted wrong in this topic I was looking at this topic: https://www.geotech1.com/forums/show...search-Problem at the same time, sorry for the confusion.

Carl said what else could go wrong - leaky SAT capacitor or faulty SAT op amp.

Thanks for your reply. Gotta figure out what to do now--Im not on a level with you guys --my books are about the part with the ocean...

                          Hi Eric
Hope you are well. Just thought I would shoot a note over to see if you have gotten your shop set up yet. Really miss having my CS6 running and was wondering if I should buy a TDI coil stock for it. Just that the exchange and taxes are brutal.
                          Kind Regards

Slightly off topic, but I have not forgotten your coil. I measured the one you sent with the disconnected shield and it is 300uH. A TDi coil will work fine, or any other 300uH (or thereabouts) coil. I have not made any coils lately as have moved house and workshop. Only just now are getting organised again to doing some detector work which will include making and potting some coils. Have tried some new wire called ECOwire. 19/0.1 and thinner insulation with better dielectric constant than PVC. Looks good.

                          Eric.

                            Hi Clive,
Yes, only in the past few days have I started potting coils. I have a 10 inch coil in the same type of shell, only in white. Problem is that I have not found any suitable waterproof coax as yet. That which I had is no longer available unless you buy about 5 miles of the stuff. The coil I have made has a shorter length than your original at only 4ft 6in. That is all I had left; is that sufficient? The braid on your coax looks as though water had got into it at some stage as the braid was a bit black so I didn't use that.

                            PM me with your thoughts.

                            Eric.

Hi Ferric--that's awesome that you are having a look at it. 5 miles--maybe start a Trans Atlantic...
Been through three cases with that board not surprised there's some black in the cable. Seepage...part of life--especially at our age...
4 feet is fine I can get a White's wand for it--better for the hardware anyhow. These machines are making me crazy--2 DF's both with leaker coils or something they go into this no detection Hummmm at the preset delay --every single one of them. Talk to Bill Lahr a lot (yesterday in fact) a pet peeve of us both. Thanks again for getting to it--that and the GQ favorite detectors of a ridiculous number owned...
                                Kind Regards clive
