  • Which PI Machine To Build?

Thinking of building a PI machine from one of the designs here, i'm looking for something that works well and can be used for a bit of serious detecting. Which machine and coil should i build, if the machine will work well i don't mind going for something more complex.

How much experience do you have building and testing electronic circuits?
Can you solder well and have a multimeter and O'scope?

A good start is buying a kit from Silverdog in the UK.

He currently has three kits. Search the geotech forum and read about them.

Does the mpp beach version have its own pcb or do you modify the silverdog pcb?

MPP Beach is just a different name for the REV-E version. There are no modifications required.

I'm new at this so bear with me.

Out of the 3 kits Silverdog sells, which one goes the deepest?

Can any of these kits be made to work with coils sold on the market today or do you have to build your own?

                Thanks!

do all 3. then after your first experience in electronics you will never ask us which one goes deepest.

Minipulse Plus is the deepest if tuned correctly. Baracuda is the second deepest. Surf-PI is the smallest and simplest design, but still with good depth.
All three can use commercial coils.

Both Minipulse and Baracuda have comprehensive build documents, but the Surf-PI does not.

do MPP+ because it is well documented.
