      I'm not so shure:
      One example:
You have to order an additional 36cm coil incl. holder for ca. 150 Euro but I would like a 50cm coil minimum and it should be inclusive because no one wants to be limited to a huge square coil!

and is this the max. depth PIs can reach? I guess not.
      http://www.mikronbg.com/Stinger2.html
Depths of finding metals with searching frame 1,20x1,20m.:
      - metal object sized: 10 x 10cm………………….180 cm. (5,5')
      - 25 x 25cm…………………………………..……..230 cm. (7,5')
      - 50 x 50cm…………………………………………..2,8 m. (9,3')
      - 1 x 1m. ……………………………...……………….4 m. (13,5')
      - Maximum depth for a very big metal object …..up to 6 m. (up to 20')

      Hi Funfinder.
I agree that Bulgarian PI are good machines but for some years i "see" the same machines.
Stinger II is a good machine with good results on air tests but not so good at ground. If you will give sensitivity for good depth then you have much eratic signals.
Now about the max depths that you put here ... they are on air not on earth. For example with coil 1x1m is difficult to detect the 10cm x 10 cm object at depth bigger than 1.0 or 1.2m max at normal terrain except if it is dry sand......

      • I agree with Geo about detection at great depth, not easy, cause when there is a meter of hard soil over the target and mineralized too only top detectors shine and still have troubles detecting small stuff at such depth even with great coils, not to say that are about all PI kind and all with hi current drain -> big and heavy battery to carry , usually sla type

there are few exception to that I mean some VLFs with larger coils (20'' range and more) and some two-boxes but both fails in detection of small say 10x10cm plate at 1 meter depth

myself built GS4 and could detect 10x10cm plate (iron or brass) at 85+ cms (that's >32 inches!) in air with 25cm (10'') monocoil and even more with larger coils I guess (did not try) but one thing is "in air" detection and other is in hard soil... in hard soil could get clear signal "just" at 70cm, so lose around 15-20% of depth cause of soil mineralization, that's worse cause GS4 HAS ground balancing...

using TGS/TGSL could get such brass plate at 72-75cm with 27.5cms DD coil but in hard soil detection depth is less, say 50-60cm depending on soil mineralization so could be really worse situation cause you may think can detect a small coin at 30cms where you actually can fail detecting at 20cms in worse soil with lot of iron minerals cause must use GEB extreme settings and lose much of in air performance...

last but not least: unshielded coils seems much times very promising... then you shield them bad way and got 30-40% less sensitivity... that's furstrating a lot

Hello Max . I remember reading on this forum a few years ago that you built the GS4 and how deep it went . Just wondering if you ever experimented [modifications] with the frequency , timing settings or pulse width and or delay settings of the GS-4 and did you notice any elimination of any garbage targets . [aluminum ,rusty nails]
I was reading a field test on the newer Eric Foster design Gold Scan 5 machine that a lot of garbage was not detected , if so I am wondering if a micro-processor is used on the GS-5 . If not than the GS-4 has a lot of upgrade potential . I think maybe the GS-4 is a very under-rated and overlooked machine . Every one was always looking at the Delta Pulses and the DBP-2010's and you Max said a few years ago how sensitive the GS-4 was to smaller gold and to larger general deep targets .
Glad you are back !!! ......Return of the Max !!

          Regards............Eugene

            Hi Eugene
yes, I did some experiments with it years ago expecially with small coils mean 8'' and 10'' , not experimented much with larger coils cause then switched my interest to some VLFs (e.g. TGS/TGSL and others)

I have to say GS4 is really sensitive PI machine and well balanced, though not easy to build cause large schematic and many parts, including an "old style" power supply that makes voltages required, I used Eric Foster's design for PSU as reported in Alexis schematic, not changed that to avoid messing with harmonics etc in newer circuits , as an example it's easy today using 7660 and many others for generating by charge pump negative voltage etc but I didn't made that way and used original "discrete" 555 approach as in original GS4

about discrimination I found it's unreliable most of the times, means the mask of iron and ferromagnetic targets fails very often depending on target composition e.g. some kind of steel it's easy detected, unreliable; the interesting thing is geb section but beware of bricks , hot rocks and pottery... sounds ALWAYS

on the beach it's good, goes deep always, dig lot of trash but can find gold rings etc have ALWAYS to dig any single target, no reliable disc as explained that's cause so much trash detected and dug

don't know if GS5 has mcu inside, but I would not trust its disc as with other PIs, cause disc is poor in almost any pure PI unless the target size is as specified etc... no good for very small things and so they cannot really disc between a coin and a pull-tab... that's what most of us are looking for...

So, it's good about depth and sensitive, relatively stable BUT not usable in many places (e.g. places with lot of pottery and bricks, mostly inland) and ideal just for beach hunting where there's lot of sand and not real soil or many pottery fragments as in some inland places

I made Delta also and GS4 is better but the efforts to make it work are times more than making Delta: an average homebrewer can make Delta about easy... a GS4 it's a whole different thing, lot of pitfalls and even coils and more critical than with other PIs, cause you have to stay below 450uH and not less than 3 ohm resistance or things start becoming complex (drifts, chatters, dumping adj, eccessive current drawn etc.); then also fully working in right order you got usually 220-250mA drawn that's not few current comparing to Delta or XR71 or other PIs

if you rise frequency to 1KHz or the like you got extra current cause increase duty factor... so got easy 300-500mA (depending on coil resistance and TX width) that's big big trouble for battery at 14.4V... need a large one to gain stability: at 1Khz GS4 is very fast responsive and more sensitive to small stuff but current drawn is too much with 100uS TX pulse and fet runs warm

the interesting thing is you can get 2cm coin at 35cm with 25cm coil (10'') even at 250mA current consumption and 500Hz freq if well tuned, that's something not easy to see with VLFs, unless using larger coils e.g. OO config

            • i have used for C19 C20 1.5mf but i have seen in the original is it 1mf which value is the best for pcb ,another thing the discrimination is not working well pls if have anyone guide me for best calibration for puls star bg and how the discrimination work for discriminate between ferrous -non ferrous.

              best regards

                      • Pi detectors-reliable discrimination of silver can be obtained only with two coils sensor transmitter and receiver.

Maybe that's why Nikola Tesla died at 87th year of life, since he spent his whole life near the extreme electromagnetic fields.
scs if you're afraid of death: do not watch TV, mobile phone ... today many things radiated electromagnetic fields.
