  • Are there any examples of Machine Learning technologies being applied to PI metal detectors?

As post topic asks. The world has been dazzled by the introduction of Large Language Models such as GPT4 and Google Bard but some claim that a much quieter revolution has been gaining ground, the introduction of Machine Learning (ML) algorithms into small microcontroller-based systems. There are now many examples of microcontroller-based metal detector solutions and even some claims of AI in VLF and multi frequency iplementations. I haven't yet found any for PI and wondered if there are any out there? If not, why not?

There's quite a bit of A.I-related tech being applied to de-mining, which is normally PI-based. Try a Google search.

I have tried a Google search, I thought that this was a forum to discuss metal detection? De-mining relies on multiple technologies such as Ground Penetrating Radar and software techniques such as sensor fusion to combine expected constants such as the amount of metal contained within a mine (PI) and the size of the cavity in soil (from GPR) to increase the rate of true detects. Apparently even a simple AND logic application can result in hugely improved true detects and subsequent removal. Ive not seen anything on a pure PI application though and that's what I'm asking about.

        That's only a sub-section.
Geotech contains the single largest collection of information on the "Technology of Treasure Hunting", of which metal detectors are arguably the most popular topic.

Fair enough, but this topic is posted in Technology > PI Technology

I don't know of any PI that uses AI but, then again, I don't know of any normal metal detector that does, either. About 4 yrs ago an engineer at First Texas messed around with some AI concepts but after 3 or 4 months got pulled off to another project. Such an effort will require several man-years to make it useful.
