  • Dual GB pots

Been studying some of Reg Sniff's TDI articles and have an interesting thought.

In one of his writings he stated that changing the GB on the TDI also changes where certain objects or coins will change from a high tone to low tone or vise versa. Just thinking how hard it would be to add another GB control and tie it to a finger switch to check certain targets. A crude form of discrimination. The switch would need to be tied to both pots so that only one would be active at a moment in time.
Also would it help to have a GB pot with a wider range of resistance to more fine tune this feature.

Years ago I had the Tesoro Tejon with 2 discriminator adjustments. I could set the first to just about where all iron was discriminated out and the other to just crackle or pop on a nickel. Pulling a small finger switch I could tell almost 100% of the time if there was a nickel in the ground.

    Thinking out loud.

Yes, you can do this. The GB control is in a noise-sensitive part of the circuit so adding additional wiring increases the chances of noise pickup.

Use 4066 switches to turn on/off different sets of fixed resistors (no pots) if you want to keep the signal clean
