8 inch coil or 12 inch coil for Pi machine.

Wondering what are the differences when using and 8 inch coil vs a 12 inch coil, using on dry sand and in the surf. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

It's a trade off.
8" - It's lighter so you can swing longer.
Nearly as deep as a 12"
Easier pinpointing.
Possibly less ground response.
Sharper response to smaller targets.

12" - Better ground coverage.
Slightly deeper, especially on larger targets.

Most of my larger coils are hanging on the wall.
