  • Mosfet switching time

I was making multiple pulse induction circuits using IRF9630 p-channel mosfet but the range is very low (couple of centimeters for 10*10*10 cm hollow iron cubes), even after trying multiple coil designs and 3S lithium batteries
I suspect the problem is that the mosfet doesn't cut the current quickly enough (3 us) could that be the problem? what should be the switching time?
Also I tried using a gate driver and it reduced the time to 0.5 us but still the performance is as bad.

attached the switching of the mosfet (coil not connected )

What circuit are you using to switch the mosfet on and off? Post a schematic of your detector

I tried with the pirate pi and surf pi

The n channel mosfets have faster switching times. I am looking into some of those. The Nano PI book does not seem show issues with what you are using.
