I'm trying to help someone who has a PSII-Pro that appears to be defective.
First, does anyone know if the analog circuitry is the same between the PSII (analog) and the PSII-Pro (digital)? The PSII-Pro has 2 PIC micros which I assume replace a bunch of discrete logic in the old design. But it still appears to be a more complicated design, leading me to believe that even the analog circuitry is quite different.
Second, does anyone have a schematic for the PSII-Pro? I am only interested in repairing this detector and, if required, would promise that no one else gets the schematic. You can PM me on this.
Third, does anyone know how to contact Thomas Breuer? I tried the email on his Pulse Star web site but no response.
Fourth, here is the problem: I can turn it on, press the retune switch, and adjust tuning to get a low motorboat threshold. And then sometimes it continues to work just fine. But sometimes when I release the retune switch, after a 2-3 second delay, it suddenly "rails out" like there is a big metal target in front of the coil. And it will do this as soon as I turn on the power. I can press the retune switch and it returns to the motorboat threshold until I release it. My assumption is that the retune circuit (usually an analog sample-hold) has maybe a bad capacitor but without a schematic it will take me a while to find it. And, like I said, sometimes is continues to work; I've left it sitting with an idle threshold for hours with no problem. Anyone else ever seen this problem?
