  • PCB for Proscan Project!

I just had circuit boards made for the Proscan PI metal detector and the Earth Resistiviy meter. If anyone has been kicking around the idea of making either one of these, I strongly recommend that you get ahold of FAR CIRCUITS and ask them for price information at [email protected] or the url is http://cl.ais.net/farcir/index.htm. I've already paid for the films to be made, so it should be cheaper for you than for me!

I'll keep you posted once I get it built and try it out. I plan on using 2 coils for better isolation and of course to see the early part of the return pulse. What I'm going to use is a fair size rectangular circut board and etch 2 spiral patterns on it, the idea being the coils are side to side and should have minimum coupling. I also plan on putting in a 4 pole variable highpass to hopefully eliminate the longer time constant reponse from the black magnetite soil compared to Golds time constant (much shorter).

    Keep your soldering irons hot!

    More on PCBs

Thanks for the info, Randy. I'm currently working on the flux gate mag and am about to try out an iron-on transfer method of making PCB's. I'll post a write-up on this if it works well as it will let you make prototype boards for a couple of bucks each.

Will the fluxgate magnetometer be sensitive enough to detect the presence of a black magnetite deposit in a stream? I would rather build a fluxgate than a proton magnetometer with the twin water bottles.

I don't know the relative sensitivities of the two types. You might look at the Mag page, I have links to a few other pages that might offer more info. Try Phil Barnes or Dan Fountain.
