  • Proscan, am I reinventing the wheel? +

Now that my dive season is wrapping up, I am planning to put together one of the Proscan PI detectors over the winter.

Rather than getting into etching and chemicals, I am planning to transfer the schematic to a typical ladder board. I guess some folks call them bread boards. A predrilled PCB anyway, that will take standard DIP's up the middle.

Before I start, is spreading the circuitry out like this going to introduce unwanted inductive potentials that will make tuning more difficult or impossible? Has anyone done this already?

    TIA,

    Scott

Re: Proscan, am I reinventing the wheel? +

I just had circuit boards made for the Proscan PI metal detector and the Earth Resistiviy meter. If anyone has been kicking around the idea of making either one of these, I strongly recommend that you get ahold of FAR CIRCUITS and ask them for price information at [email protected] or the url is http://cl.ais.net/farcir/index.htm. I've already paid for the films to be made, so it should be cheaper for you than for me!.............

this is part of a post from Randy Seeden he made earlier this year I ordered two boards I think cost me a total of 14.00 already made drilled and etc....

the link above is in error--should be--

if though it is your position to use point

to point---as eric foster would say (truely)

its all about signal to noise...

yhe best thing you could do would be to have

a ground plane...the critical area (in regards

of your more specific query) would be in the

      area of transmit----high current----also to

be sure to filter (and/or shield) correctly...

      dont forget the bypass.......

me no make proscan or any pi yet----but p-p

wire me do many dig/ana/rf stuff for years--

      tech america --now radioshack.com---has glass

      pcb .1 cntr--with platethrough holes/ground plane

      ---material ov choice for p-p

Did the board actually work? +

I was thinking having to understand the schematic well enough to transfer it to a ladder board would give me a firmer grounding in the underlying theory. Did the board made by Far Circuits actually result in a working device, or is yours still on the bench?

        No offense, just asking.

no offense taken -bow season a greater priority right now- it will be a winter project for

me to play with- am considering doing some mods- for example playing with the frequency of the audio-making it variable- playing with the pulse width- making it variable - just a few thoughts-
