  • PI Microcontroller Treasure Hunter

    Hello, all,

just getting in to this new hobby and I am now busy building the Microcontroller PI Treasure Hunter; has anyone else done this project, and if so, what are the results?

Thanks in advance for any answer!!

    Hi Anthony,

Yes, I have built the Mark Stuart designed detector. However, I ordered the kit from Magnenta and not from the plans on this site. There are a few difference between the two. The kit does provide all the parts including a flimsy shaft and a frisby for a seachcoil housing. Overall, it did make it easier for assembly to have all the electronic parts already together.

You can order the pc board and plans only from Magenta for about $20.00. The board you receive from Magenta does have a few changes on it.

As for final results, it did work resonably well but does not have any great sensitivity. the coil needs to be faraday shielded which is one thing that is not mentioned in the plans.

It picks up medium sized gold but will hardly respond to a small gold nugget such as a 5 to grain size even resting on the coil.

Overall, it is a good learning tool and it has helped me to better understand how PI's work.

    I hope this helps.
