  • I do think that VD7 was placed on the 4053 possibly as a clamping diode/level shifter to help prevent undershoot. Makes more sense than over on the oscillator imho. This is in addition to the "blocking diodes" which are missing. It could be what prevents the "pops" that are heard in other detectors that don't have it.

The circuit really needs to be put on scope to see though.

    • ... Would this be the same as 3.3 microfarad? ...
      Yes

        1. The generator operates without a diode!
The diode used in the circuit Tejon.

        2. If you use mikrokotroller, you must use a diode in 4053 U12.
If you use the circuit without microcontroller connects to pin 7 and 8 of the 4053 U12.

I tested both versions connections U12 4053. everything works

        • C51 appears to be reverse polarity.

There are many differences between "original" one and the one i made.
The one i made now is working indeed decent.
So far i tested it ONLY in DISC mode and therefore i can't claim anything relating to All Metal mode and Nonmotion.
I get decent air distances for various items.
GEB is working just nice; rejects all minerals, ferrite etc...
                      Disc is working excellent!
Treshold is working, Sense is working... seems everything is on it's place.
I couldn't obtain some of "original" ic's so i made series of checks and tests and established most proper ic's for present conditions that i have now.
Funny thing, but TL061 is performing very well at RX front end!?
Much better than a pile of other types that i tested!
I intentioanlly wanted to avoid second 4053 and instead i will use ordinary mechanical switches, by now i only made wire jumpers so to settle it only in Disc mode.
Also i intentionally wanted to avoid use of CD4024 and instead i used simple VCO taken from White's Classic schematic.
Without additional buffering; 7660 will not synchronize directly via resistive coupling so i used most simple method: capacitive coupling!
What to say? This thing is working and it is working indeed very decent!
I have original Tesoro coil (for Tejon, Cibola and Vaquero) and all the checks i did with it.
                      Cheers!
                      hello

                      still not finished by myself
one question: there is a diode D5 (upper right corner) in the shematic named 16, is it a zner diode 16V ?

                      thanks

                      • It is a standard small signal diode in a surface mount package.

                        • many thanks merc,

i have seen it now in your schematic (i need goggles)

what substitute as a wired standard component can i use instead of this smd version

i have ivconic´s standard pcb variant (wired components)

i think i am finished up to 95% some little parts hard to find, like this uncommon pico farad caps

but will post it when i get ready

                          thanks again for fast answer

                          • A common 1N4148 or 1N914 should work just fine. Nothing special.

Hi, I'm trying to finish the same board as you. I used 1N4148 for bas16. I got the uncommon caps from *bay and I have some spares, if you can't find them easily, one letter from France will cost almost nothing, just drop me a postal address.
I still have to solder the external pots and test it, but I'm having some trouble understanding the voltage written on the schematics. I can see the bridge between 2 spots on Ivconic's board, but I don't understand on this board how you can get the +5V at R50 at the same time you get +9V at R21. On Ivconic's board, R16 is supposed to be bridged to R50, so it will get +9V too. where is my mistake?
