I wasn't thinking of marketing said detector. It is just an interesting experiment. Like a crossword puzzle. Taking yesterday's technology and seeing if it can be made to perform better with what we now know. Maybe just a design to share with friends on Geotech. That said, if you can save $2 in parts and you make 10,000 machines, you have saved $20,000 which could be part of the salary for someone.

I agree with this, but it's not much protection. If you can afford it, better to go with a patent.

Actually I myself prefer an elegant design.

Definitely worth taking a look at . We need the full article of the kits that were sold , asking for anyone's help .

Here are the two files from 1977 and 1974 , that I was sent .
        Regards............Eugene
        Eugene,
I created both of those .pdf files back in I think 2011, and I posted them in the Compass forum. At that time we got onto the discussion of those old detectors, and some of the guys in the Compass forum were old time users of the vintage detectors, so I gathered that material together from my files and put it in .pdf format. The two .pdf files you have posted here are what I created.

The other quotes in this posting are from a person who was another of the old timers who was posting in the Compass forum back then. I recognize his words being quoted here, he is from Texas, and used the Phase Readout Gradiometer years ago and was reflecting upon it...

I thought i'd chip in as its a subject close to my heart, i think the subject of detector development has become skewed over the years.
With far to much snobbery towards older designs, just because an older detector is an old idea does not make it useless.
there do seem to be a few "off the wall designs" that would benefit from modern components, power and research methods, even if that means using the device for a new more useful purpose.
The device in the OP is one of those, as is scarborough's beat balance, there are lots more if you dig around.
Detectors with unique attributes, that have had little or no further development but have potential.
