  • I used .33 mfd box film capacitor. I dont know how stable it is. I couldnt find a .33 mfd COG or NPO .I just tried to make it resonant to 8.5K hz by removing and adding TX coil turns.then rebooting MD to see what the new frequency is on the display. I think the new krot2 version is 3.4 Z80? or something. try looking on the forum, I think there is a new Sprint lay file.

    • Does anyone know if C11 is a electrolytic? its supposed to be 10 pf? mfd? what? It is shaped like a box film capacitor on the board layout sheet.

For 10uF film capacitor C11 is of too small figure on a board. I think this is one of mistakes and it should be polarized. There are missing + on schematic and PCB designer program use it then as film capacitor with its shape. I used 10uF electrolyte capacitor on its place. It is 10uF as per schematic and part list too.

Z80? We are on Sinclair ZX80 and Spectrum again? Not interested - in first line due high power consumption of Z80 platform. And why, there are still 10k free in xmega32 flash for improvement?

I am the author of "The Mole " . My name is Andrew. I am very pleased to know that my device interested foreign friends ! The truth was surprised that more than one radio-enthusiast boasted full willingness device and that there is distrust of SMD parts ..)
              And now to the point:
              1. Nearly all displays with the controller HD44780 or similar work from 3.3V but this 3- need to apply a negative voltage C26,D1,D2,C27. Adjusting implemented R19 ( can be fixed resistor ) or instrument menu - The " Contrast " .
2 . Capacitor C11=10 uF can be both electrolyte and non electrolyte . I use ceramics 1206.
              3 . R1 R2 = 1 ohm resistors ( I put two in parallel for 2 ohms )
R2 affects the accuracy of current measurement in TX!
              4. Z80 - housing

              • Hello Andrew

Welcome here and thanks for explanations. I hope for your help and advices with this interesting project in future too.

In part list R21, R25 and R26 (all of 10 Ohm value) are marked with asterisk (*), Why? I didn't found explanations.

                • Usually the * symbol indicates that the item is selected when debugging.

                  • In which the scheme has R26?

This is "debugging" R on mounting scheme, instead direct copper lead from pin5 of D4 (MC34119) to (-) pin of Beeper.

                        Welcome here.
Can you tell us where is better to connect the Tx coil??? At Tx1 and Gnd, At tx1 and Tx1.1 or gnd and Tx1.1???

                        Regards

                        • I have not found where the diagram Tx1.1. .. If you look at this chart that I connect 1.2.
Current ~ 100mA enough for normal operation. If you need more current then connect the 1.3 and get twice as much current through the bridge swinging. But thus increasing the overall consumption

                          • Hi Andrew, thanks for reply.
I mean Tx1 and Tx1.1 as shown at below pcb...
                            I saw what you mean....

Hi Smitty, Ok so you connect one side of coil to TX1.1, providing you have a resonant cap in the coil, and the other TX connection to ground. Tx1 is unconnected, and you are now in bridge TX coil mode and you should have 2x TX coil power?
