  • Deep PI metal detector

    Hello everybody,
I would like to create my own microcontroller based pulse induction metal detector which can detect small metal objects (10 cm diameter) in 5 meters depth at least. I'm beginner in electronics and I have some knowledge in microcontroller programming. So, I ask if there is some schematics and documentation that can help me to reach my objective.
Please, I need your help. Thank You...

Your goal is well beyond current state-of-the-art. So the answer is probably 'no'.

The odds are well and truly against you.
Firstly, as kt315 [jokingly] says, your goal is definitely in LRL territory. Or, to put it another way ... it's just a dream.

Not only that, as a beginner in electronics, and with no experience of using microcontrollers, you're setting yourself an impossible task.
I would strongly suggest that you get yourself a copy of ITMD and read it thoroughly before proceeding ->

Pick any. Start with videos to see what sounds right.
Your only limitation is soil mineralisation. In case you have severe grounds like those in OZ, you'd need some kind of ground balance, and your choice narrows to next to none.
Somewhat deeper detection is possible with 2box devices, and "cable detectors". The latter are often confused with LRL detectors (which they are not) as they use far away transmitters as signal sources, but so far these are the deepest around.
It goes without saying that more depth requires larger targets to trigger any response, but heck, I'm not sure you'd dig a ton of soil to collect a coin.

if you so want PI detector you may begin from Delta Pulse, fully analog project, then later experienced you can do something himself with micro.
you can also do Chance PI, but it is not deepest and not open source one, but has very simple schematic for fast realization.

Please, what is the maximum depth at which Delta Pulse can operate?

Practically all DIY PI designs will get your 10cm target at around 0.5m deep.

there is existing some relation between coil size and target size. so 10cm target hits in small size coils' range, but does not hit in big coils' range.
for example, testing on cola can is faulty with coil 1m x1m because the target is too small for the range.

                              hi

                              i which u r all fine & well

kindly , can anybody tell me which is the deepest PI detector in the market (or hand made) that can work with high reliability with the volcanic soil and / or highly minerals soil ??
for me , no need for discrimination at all
my targets ( roman relics & boxes ) to be discovered are buried deeply ( 3m to 6m in depth )from long time ago , the sizes are big ( length &width more than 60cm, hight more than 40 cm ).
my problem : i am using electrostatic detectors but they are affected with the hollow effects so no correct pinpointing of the targets , as i see the electronics PI can be very reliable .

waiting for your kind reply & assistance

                              Best Regards
