  • coinmaster 6DB GEB Disc Schematic needed :)

    Hi there ive had this 6DB hidden away for a while now having no luck in finding a Schematic for it, has a mod too
    2 variable pots either side of the coil lead connecter, plus there a 3 way toggle switch that has MODE written above between
    GEB DISC and GROUND BALANCE has anyone got any idea what this is for.

    hope someone can help

    I found some info here;
    http://compass-metal-detector-forum....td7588526.html

    But just for some mods no schematic...

    I did find this entry explaining the history of these a bit;

    That detector came out as a new model, right after the 5000D and 6000D detectors, and from my records it arrived to the public somewhere in late 1979, or January 1980. The "D" indicates it has GEB discriminator, and the "B" indicates it has push buttom memory.

    It would ground cancel the ground while it was in discriminate mode, and employs both battery packs in order to completely run the detector. Rechargable batterys were an option offered by Whites. And you will need both 12V and the 9V packs to run that sucker... So start investing in batteries.

    Beyond that, I do not have any schematics for that unit, as it was an "in-between" unit, between the early Supreme models and the various versions from the Supreme, up into the highly touted "S1, then S2, and finally the S3" versions.

    Those "S" things mean Series #1, Series #2, and Series #3. Not much to mention the Series #1, but when you begin to enter the Series #2 and finally reach the Series #3, well the White's "die hard" people are after the S2 and S3 detectors.

    I sold the S2 and S3 versions myself, the others were before I opened up my store front detector shop.

    After the S2 and S3 were history and gone, then came the very highly sought after White's detectors, those with DI in the name. You know, like theDI Pro and etc...

    I loved them myself. They had the meter on the top of the handle, with a finger accessable toggle switch, where you could reach and change. This was all just before the coming out of the newer coils. You got the great grand dad of them there. Should be very good to hunt small gold nuggets with in gold areas. It had the ability to reach ZERO NULL, read that .pdf file I sent to you regarding finding the NULL POSITION in the detector.

      Hi there Silver Dollar,

      ThankYou for your help, yep the 6/DB G.E.B's are a good unit they were liked as much as the 6000 series which i have 3 of haha an sometimes
      even more with mods done too assist finding gold ect. thankyou for the shortcut as well i have viewed this a few times in the past
      and just now haha as it states there maybe it is a control for positive/negative gain for the coil? woops thats what i get for copying n pasting haha
      but the 3 way toggle switch has got me stumped if its a high or low charge or just a auto ground balance but ive been given a schematic
      ( that Todd given me (( Thanks Again )) its looks like a easy variable fix not all that much to do to it so iam hoping that there isnt to many
      transistors n ics have gone, gee those zeners are strong little suckers even the 1N4148 but the caps need heat sinks on them haha in the gold
      series 6000 theres bubbles with burn marks on top of the caps so if there 85 DEg fail point hate to think what temp they get to have bubbles in
      the alloy tops with burn marks.

      once again thank you.

      Gee before i forget i did send FINDERS another email asking about THE MOD'S, oh i didnt receive an attachment about NULL POSITION in Pdf format.

        Well caps get old and their internal resistance goes up so they should be replaced every 20 or 30 years or so.
        I haven't seen many with heat damage unless they are at the AC input of a TV or something. The White's are
        good hard working detectors though. I wish I could find the old one my mom had. It was in her attic for years
        but went missing just as I was getting interested in them!

        If you have a problem and or schematic post them up and we'll try to help..

            hey, can you pot the schematic, or at least send it via PM to me. I have a 4DB and it might help a bit. The 4DB doesn't mention GEB anywhere....

              Hello Silver Dollar
              I was the person who posted that text regarding the early Whites GEB detectors in the Compass forum. It pleased me to see that someone regarded my original posting to post part of the posting.

              Thanks. I appreciate it very much.

              The original material I had regarding the Zero Null position I got back in those early days from a fellow who used to work closely with Whites Electronics. It was not necessarily such to find small gold nuggets, but was created to target and ID "hot rocks". I believe the original material came from Jimmy Sierra and I received it back then in a photostat copy and I re-wrote it so that it was more legible.
