The coil construction is very interesting to look at. What is clear, is the labeling, for start/end of wind, on each individual coil.
Also interesting is the rectangular cross-section of the bundle comprising the TX. The wire used in the tx, reminds me a little of the braided solder wick you can buy. Obviously, in this case, the individual strands are coated with insulation. And it might not be braided, it could simply be twisted. The colour variation, that can be clearly seen in your image, could give hints to twist/braid rate.
For TX generation maybe get inspiration from this thread here : http://www.geotech1.com/forums/showt...ulse-Induction

But its good to look at pcb images. Via stitching on the gps module.
And the display/UI board has what looks like a border for placement of a can/shield over the pcb. So that means that the microSD is not user accessible ? I think it will be a boon for some users to be able to plot and store find locations to within a few metres.
I guess this UI pod with gps/screen/UI controls and processors and linux, has been ported over from the ctx3030 ? Same for the audio tx and rx modules. That should have reduced development and production cost considerably.... compared with coming up with a completely new UI and audio solution.
That being the case, can any ctx3030 users comment on the possibilty to remove or access stored gps info by any means other than via usb or the built in screen ?
