    Hello everybody

I have adquired a C.Scope CS4ZX. It is old and dirty. All foams are quartered, front panel is dirty, coil and pole have all kind of shocks, glues are melt. When I powered up it worked but it was very unstable. It has also bad contacts in the coil connector to the control box. Nevertheless after some work I have dissasembled the detector and all the electronics looks good, and all the switches and controls perform their job. I think that I can restore this old detector, but I need the schematic and as much information as I can. It has a lot of resistor trimmers and it is impossible to fit it again without information of their function.

I was searching in the forum and there are not any information of this detector. I think that someone could have some information, specially the schematic. I'll be very gratefull if someone could help me and provide the information. It can sent me by email

    Thank you

Thank you kt315 for your answer.

Yes I try to document all restoration process with photographs. For the moment I need the technical information of the detector, without it I don't know if I will be able to repair it.

In any case I'll try to take photographs of all boards as detailed as I can.

I'll post some of them here.

      King regards

Thank you FatBob for your answer.

I didn't know this forum. It is very nice. I'll try to write for help there although they treat Compass detectors not C.Scope ones.

Yes there are not information about this detector. It is a nice one, but although it could be done, too complex to perform an reversal engineering. It would require too much time that I have not.

For me it is unpleasant because it is a good detector, and the normal situation will be that at the end of the restoration process it doesn't work, or it work but out of alignment. So, it is the life.

Thank you again for all your answers. And sorry for my bad English.

          King regards

your english is more perfect than mine! =))) this forum is sometimes is very strange be cause i see very advanced people
here (minelab, whites, first texas) but you do not find out schematics here you so need. all are underwater covered like X-Files on real hard ETs' encounters.... the firm secrets and they have full right to give nothing. only we dumb asses ... is the thinking nucleas... bad fact.
while you can read very good but also very abstract theoretical messages from the gurus you are not able to use somewhere )))
i have not nothing on you ask. the archive has not mention. if you so cooperative - you will share your pics.
if not... if not you ll see people like you see them anywherearound in virtual webnet... also uncooperative, with huge puffy Ego...
Fatbob misleaded cause C-Scope is not Compass... but you can try ask... i set down in compass
forum alltime and i can say - you ll not find any useful schematics there.

            yours sincerely

Sorry for some reason I though C. Scope and Compass were the same, ah that's why I can't find the CS4ZX on Compass history sites.

CS5ZX is a clone of Treasure Baron, Discovery electronics. JB's product. but not of Compass. its site is http://www.jb-ms.com/Baron/
                with forum http://members5.boardhost.com/DetectorDeals/
about CS4ZX as i say above i know nothing...

Thank you to both kt315 and FatBob for your help and contributions.

Yes it looks like it is impossible to get information about this detector.

It is a pain to see it over desk and know that it can be alive as when it was made, but things are as they are.

It is not a new technology detector. It was ended its manufacturing 20 years ago, and technical information could be available. So all manufacture companies do the same more or less, and all are ever normally at the same technological level all the time.

But in the other side I understand the companies polices. For example in the case of this detector, although it is an "old" (but excellent) machine, if you put available the technical information today, in a low quantity of time it could be hundreds of cheap copies in the market. Although it is not the last technology detector, it is good enough to consider to buy one of them because it is cheap. It performs a good job by a low money quantity, and at the end it takes a part of the sales market of the traditional metal detector companies. It should be taken into account that it is not a big consumer market, it is limited. So the traditional companies had invested a high quantity of effort and resources for the development in that time, and if today the detector is cloned they have not returns, and the new cloner companies only have profits with the effort of the others.

With regard to people related with traditional companies, they have legal responsibilities with regard to their companies, so they have to be loyal with policies of the Companies.

But in any case I agree with kt315 that the metal detector technology is sometimes enclosed in mystery halo, and things that could be clearly and well explained take a convoluted explanation, many times with holes or not clear ideas. I think that if you want to explain something do it clearly, we know that you are a real master in this issues, but if you don't want to explain it clearly it is better that you don't say anything. A confused idea that you create in the brain of others could be worse than their total ignorance.

Well, all the previous paragraphs are out of the subject of the post. Then, could anybody help me with the technical information of this detector?

Sorry again for my horrible English

                  King regards

C-Scope have a good reputation for helping customers, and repairing old machines, and supplying parts, is something they do. However, according to this UK forum thread, search-coils are no longer available:
                      http://www.metaldetectingforum.co.uk...p?f=25&t=50890

Also, if you don't have it, the Owners Manual is a available here:

Thank you again for the answers

kt315 It is interesting the blackbox concept really. Input a coin, output "beep, beep", it could be a tobacco machine into the box

Skippy, thank you also for your contribution. yes I wrote to C.Scope guys a week ago, but I have not answer for the moment.

One of the problems is that I live out of UK. The sending costs of the detector to UK (and return), and the repairing service bill could be higher than the real value of it.

So, if I send it to repair I lost part of the enjoyment. I enjoy electronics very much, perhaps more than detecting.

Yes I have the user manual, but thank you again Skippy.

If somebody wants to talk about this issues or others, out of fill up the forum this is my email:
