Could you post a full photo of the bottom board, of the trace side? It is the only photo I am still missing on the GSP model, so that I can draw out the complete schematic.

thank you but please shot in direct projection and on cloudy sun light. seems you have very hot sun there
while we do not have sun all winter here, always is cloud cover.

Can we make a project out of this combined with the XP 350 please? I wonder if a good Tesoro coil would work iwth this machine as Compass heads were, to put it mildly CRAP (sorry admin but they were) if not can we wind our own? I think a detector based on the vari-filter design would be VERY good, especially if we added a digital TID and maybe digital pots instead of the control pots. This could be something quite unique and FOR ONCE, someone (David B) is using a REAL schematic design suite - ALTIUM. Can we STANDARDISE on what we use here please? I appreciate people use what they can get/afford but check out Sonsivri----COUGH, COUGH..

Here you go Jerry, Please disregard the component designators on these photo's. They are from my own schematic and are different than the designators on David's drawing supplied at the beginning of this thread.

Thanks Phil, I really appreciate it. I am studying various Compass models, trying to establish what they did in progression from the Coin Magnum into the Scanner models, and I did not have much at all on the Scanner models. I am not into making project units, just learning for my own enjoyment. This way if I acquire a unit, I can make it the last series model.

You did fabulous work using the back light method. It is what I have done myself in the past. I built my own back light table with a difused screen. I use it restoring vintage blueprint schematics. I can even stitch smaller shots together into one large piece.

Sean............the coils are easy enough to build for this and I anticipate more build info will be shared on this if it becomes a project. I have alot but it is all paper and would need to be scanned.
So stay tuned Jerry this is the best place to learn this circuit if someone takes it on. There has been some efforts towards digitizing portions of this circuit and using SM componenets. That would be interesting.

we are to discuss here about two designs by John Earl. NOT about George Paine's ones.
we HAVE the schematic your sent, in the archive. no sense to send it again.

                    we wait, my buddy:
                    1. desoldered boards under scanner with high resolution
                    2. full part list with all measured elements
                    3. coil data

then we can sleep very calmly.

                      Hello.

Ok. Im put a new topic in the appropriate section.

If you need a simple and good reverse engenering program pcb - schematic (eagle)

Take a look at the Polish forum elektroda.pl & demonstaraction film in YT

This is god simple metod reverse pcb to schema.

This is not god simple at all. Looks interesting but i still cant see a schematic that i can read. Also many, many hours of work required.

                          But there is one advantage

Before you accurately draw the signals, many days and mistakes will pass.

In this program you go from the signal to the signal on the track. Then assign only elements from the library.
Everything should be fine without error

of course, the diagram should be manually placed (logically), but any electrical point will be properly and automatically connected.

For medium-heavy PCBs (one or two layers), it is enough.

It's such a curiosity, it may be useful to someone.

of course I am not the author of this program

                          Regards

Is there an english version? I'll give it a try, maybe very useful for reverse engineer simple pcb.

I have a full schematic ( minus TID ) for all John Earle Scanner models. XP, GSP and AU. As well as most of the documentation to build these machines. Including coil data, a full parts list, voltage charts and component locator print.

David B graciously supplied the TID print that I was lacking last week. Thank you David for all the hard work tracing that sucker out and sharing it here.
Several year ago David B also supplied the schematic here for the base stripped down Scanner circuit, Model XP-350.

Now there is talk of making this a project and I would like to offer the info I have if there is someone here that will commit to taking this on or at least starting it. In my collection are personal documentation and testing from John Earle.

The Latest Model Scanner called the AU2000 was an early analog 2 frequency machine with great sensitivity on tiny gold. This particular Scanner also Has a VCO, which works great. This would be a nice direction to take the Scanner perhaps? The machine could scan at 13.77 OR 52Khz.
I will happily share what I have but it will take a lot of effort on my part scanning all the paperwork,,, much of it from the Compass factory. This includes ECO and revision changes. But it is a lot of work for me to do if no one does anything with it. Is there enough interest and someone capable of running with this?

I heard the "fire" was something to do with a failing company and overly well insured stock. Only what I had heard mind.
