  • Tesoro Compadre Schematic PCB Rev 4.1.1

I recently got a working Tesoro Compadre so I decided to reverse engineer it. The PCB says Rev 4.1.1. This is a work in progress but I'm hoping some of you can help me find obvious mistakes.

I have gone nowhere. I have a job that I must attend to and home to look after. Studying metal detectors is just a hobby. The schematic I posted above is from my own personal Tesoro Compadre. I know the capacitor values are not labeled. The PCB is almost entirely surface mount so the capacitors have no labels. I will have to remove each one to determine their value. I am trying to decide if I want to do this. It is all quite time consuming. I only asked for others who are familiar with these designs to see if they spot any blatantly obvious mistakes.

Thanks for your work Merc and sharing it here. I for one am happy to see someone put out a drawing of the 4.1 PCB and asking for help editing it.. Not much to be found here on that PCB 4.1. I was looking here to do the GB pot add-on to my "new" 4.1 but all I can find is the mod done on the old PCB. I Was able to de-duece that the trim on the upper left of PCB is for the Sensitivity. GB must be the other trimmer with no wires.
Any ways Just wanted to say Thanks for your efforts Merc,,,, wish I had more time for my hobbies too.

Here is a picture showing the wires. Sensitivity pot is in the upper middle of the PCB. A discrimination trimmer is in the bottom right. You can see the wires around it that connect to the front panel Disc control. Just to the left is, I believe, the Ground Balance trimmer.

look on pale color of caps and their size, a height in your case. one color caps are one value caps (because its are from one party of caps). so you can desolder only 3-4 types of different color caps and you will know all its values.

I have begun working on a layout diagram and numbering components. I have the semi-conductors numbered now. There are no numbers on the PCB so this is my own number assignments.

I am just wondering, Is the TGSL not a better VLF then the Campadre ?

The Compadre is a newer model as it is from the uMax series, but honestly there is probably very little difference in performance. The Compadre uses the same coil as the TGSL as well. I would say the performance is very similar.
