So... it's like playing the lottery; to go there and buy material.
Yes i checked few elcos... don't need to tell the "tolerance" i saw ...
So, logical question would be; if you already knew that it is trash dealer: why are you going there and wasting money?
Answer is simplest possible; majority of other dealers in Serbia will sell you the very same trash (n-th grade quality class made in China) but by much higher prices!
Only few of local dealers are able to offer proper quality of material here, but prices are lunatic!
So... i use "quantification method" of solving this huge problem; i buy 5x more quantity of what i really need for project; than i got 1:1 proper material to work with.
For example, if i need 50 x 100nF caps; i buy 300 pieces. And probably 120-150 between those are alright.
      That's the usual rate.
      Stupid.
      Not good.
Sometimes i simply don't have choice.
I understand you, I have similar situation. I get parts send to friends in Germany and they send me a package every few months
or I pick them up when visiting. Thats how I have solved this, but waiting so long for parts really sucks.

So I am slowly building an inventory of good parts. For example I tried cheap switches, they lasted two days in the field ... WTF
Good switches do cost a lot more ... sometimes there are some on ebay from private people finishing their hobby for a reasonable price.

The tolerances don't matter that much, but how long for example will a rubbish electrolytic last before it leaks or dries up, gets high ESR etc ...

Hope the Colt Cobra is an original ...

Speaking of Silverdog, is he still around? I have tried his web site over the past few weeks and get a "not found" error.

                • Ivca, very good layout. Well done sir!
However, I have found one small error so far. I refer to 100x70.lay Sprint file. The 10K resistor to centre of sensitivity pot should connect to pin 6 of opamp. In your layout it is connected to pin 5. Thankfully, it is easy fix.
everything else so far is perfect. Just small part of layout remains to be checked.

These fakes performs even worse from what's noted in that article.
With these fakes was obvious from a start that something is going very wrong.
Output is dramatically attenuated, there is strange threshold present and occasional distortion.
Very big difference comparing to common TL071 behavior.
These fakes are total miss. If they wanted to fool somebody; they missed big time.

                      • Ivca, I found another small omission on your layout. I refer to your schematic, capacitor C25(100n) which is associated with power supply op amp U5a. One end is not connected to anything.(should connect to B+) Another easy fix.

                        • 100% of layout has been checked. besides the two previous mentioned errors, I could find no more mistakes.
You say you are out of practice? Dam! That's nice layout.

                              • Anybody made it yet?
                                Any video?
I am too busy in this period, unfortunately i can't have time to pay on this.
But i would really like to see if somebody make success with this detector.
