In fact I started, took a break because of the summer heat and I'm not motivated now
I know too little about the PI technique.
A beginner should build a proven project, not this one here
hi, i started it 2 days ago, because it's hard to find a good lf357 and replace it with ne5534 without changing components but short detection problem! with D.20mm 0.5mm ? 240uh at least prove the circuit works ..
No working prototype after 14 pages of the thread should tell you something. Several people have initiated construction, yet not a single working prototype. Seems strange.
It appears everyone just quit. I've seen no one say, "I've built it but it doesn't work." And I see no reason why it wouldn't work. But I can see 100 ways an inexperienced builder can make a mistake. As Andi68 says, this is not a circuit for a beginner, you need to know what you are doing.

What I found strange was that so many competent people committed to building it, and then just vanished from the thread with no explanation, some even went so far as to post pics of their progress, only to drop off. That seemed a bit strange to me. I started to think maybe there is flaw in the design. But this is not the case.
You're right, no one has said they built it and it doesn't work. And as I stated above, I never doubted that the circuit SHOULD work, as the author claimed. The schematic has been gone over, and based on this, it should detect a metal object. But main question is whether or not the meter discrimination portion and so called "ground balance" can be substantiated by a working prototype. This is the crux.
I wanted to give it a go, but others started to build it before me, so I adopted the "wait and see" approach. I guess people just lost interest. Me included.
I was stuck in the mindset of few years ago, when there was a building frenzy on the forum, a schematic would drop, and the next day there would be a working circuit, constructed overnight by a sleepless warrior!
This is not the case anymore, it seems.
after the first video of working circuit is online the people will begin to rebuild, the others before are just the stupid which have to debug the new design
i build so much circuits from here but sure the half are not working from start, too much rubbish for the scrap box
a good example are the circuits from the itmd book, sure not bad designs, but untested and published to fast with bugs
invested time, invested money, and at the end all for nothing
Well, I have already built some PI circuits and somehow they are all alike.
That's why I'm in no hurry with this circuit and winter is sure to come.
Yes, all these circuits are the same, give or take some subtle differences.
If everyone adopted the "wait and see approach", well, it never gets built. And so it leads me back to original criticism which is the Author simply dropped the schematic here on forum and left it at that.

And again i will break that rule and risk to be misunderstood.
Ok, yes; i made it long time ago.
But it didn't worked at all. So i tossed it on a pile with similar destiny attempts.
But i must emphasize that this mean nothing and tells nothing about the project.
Because most probably i made some mistake and failed subjectively.
Firs of all; i used mostly old and used components. There is great possibility that some of those was faulty.
Second; i did draw my pcb manually, using marker. It is ugly and messy. Possible source of problems too.
Third; it was a period when i was pretty much occupied with other much more important things, so i was totally out of focus.
95% chances that i failed because of the named reasons and 5% chances that project is erroneous from a start.

That's understandable. Rather than spend countless hours trying to find errors, you simply tossed it. I would never expect such a build to work from the get go. A hand drawn pcb for this circuit? You must be nuts!!!!!
I could never "hand draw" such a pcb. NO.NO.NO thanks. I like the hair on my head , thankyou very much.
In the end, nothing is proved, nor disproved.
So the verdict is still out.
