          Version 1.2 PCB

I have just started to populate my PCB that I received from Elliot. He did a giant build document for the project and I am going to record my progress through the build. The first three steps can be seen here:

Just completed the Mirage V1.2 kit.. could not be more pleased with it, and the build document is top notch.

There is a new, much improved PI version out now that supersedes the Mirage V1.2. Anyone interested, please PM me for details.

Good job Elliot taking the Mirage,Manta versions Smitty and I have been working since 2012 to a higher level. Nice PCB layout.
Here's a couple shots of our orig. version to my last version of the Mirage.

Well it's been a heck of a year for the whole world with Covid and all, so I just wanted to take this opportunity to wish everyone a wonderful and safe Christmas season and a happy new year!

I'm now working on an underwater version to fit in the waterproof Ultra Box 206 case with a large capacity Li-Po battery, and it should be ready around late Jan - mid Feb 2021 if anyone is interested.

                  Take care for now.

                    Hi Elliot.

Good to know that you are still on this project.

Can you explain what would be differences in electronic circuit in underwater version in regard to land one?

Are there as result of further (underwater) development any improvement in land version too?

Relaxed and safe Christmas season and a happy new year to you to!

                      Hi WM6,

The biggest challenges for the underwater detector include minimising the case size (for obvious handling reasons), waterproofing the pots and switches (without resorting to adopting "submarine" pots worth $90 ea.), providing a great battery supply, and making it all fit and work synergistically together. This has necessitated a complete rethink about miniaturisation without compromising any operational performance, resulting in a novel schematic that minimises component count, maintains a very fast first time to sample (which is adjustable to suit both inland, beach and underwater use (< 10uS - coil dependant, and up)). It also includes a novel audio approach that doesn't reduce the soft target tones, even when lowering the volume control, to maximise productivity in noisy environments. Relevant advancements will progressively filter through to the current outstanding version of the land/beach-only unit (i.e. the Mirage Gold Max Pi) which has found 0.6g gold flakes in Australia with a Sadie coil.

For those wanting a great pi machine project that can sample at a very fast 6uS, I have a few Gold-Max pcb's left (100mm x 100mm), with full 45 page build instructions. Victoria, Australia is under a 1 week Covid lockdown right now, so it's an ideal time for locals to build your dream machine!
