    Hello ,
Well I am currently going through a Garrett BFO all purpose metal detector mine did not turn on at first and I found the solder connects on the bottom of the battery holder were bad but my other issue is no sound .
Do you have a multimeter because after checking the battery connections you can start tracing with the meter .
    Sincerely Richard

I've never seen a Garrett AT schematic in the Geotech forums.
Since this detector is microprocessor controlled, I suspect you'll be very lucky to fix the problem.

The AT's have a known problem with the 'pinpoint' button failing, it seems likely the same issue could eventually afflict the Power button. So the keypad would be the first thing to test.

Yes, thanks guys, it turned out to be the processor, hit it with freeze spray and it turned on.

Very strange. Sounds like the processor locked up for some reason.
I'm skeptical though that this will be a permanent fix. The most likely cause is a tiny open-circuit that became reconnected when cooled, but could also open-circuit again once it warms up.

Your case might be similar to this:
" Intel? processors have built-in thermal protection. If the processor gets too hot, the built-in protection shuts down the processor.

Woody, I suggest reflowing each pin on the processor if your soldering skills are up to it.
