i think ist not totally wrong if you pickup ferrite
while Tuning detector i set tune(or sens pot, or whatever you Named it) to middle positon
then try if you can set ground pot to refuse ferrite and your bare hands too
if detector sounds while sweeping your Hand over coil it will produce false Signal over real ground too.
for good disc and ground Setup never put sens pot to Maximum (only in the range of 50-70%)
if you are able to discrimate a 100g hammer and samewhile pickup a gold ring nearby all is ok
There's more than one type of ferrite. The porous type in radios is normally fine. Some of the hard doughnut rings its better to smash with a hammer and use a small flake.
in all metal mode and a slight threshold hum move the ferrite towards the coil.
With the discrimination turn all the way clockwise the sound should go less or more and the results reversed if turned all the way counter clockwise.
I never use ferrite while tuning some detector, i found one big mineralised stone and one Roman mineralised brick, if not falsing on them, it will not give false signals even on real soil.
You are totaly right about bare hand's Bernte, noticed same situation, especially on wet grass.
Can you plz explain where is shield connected in your idx?
The way that works for me was discovered by dfbowers
Minus RX and shield kept separate in the coil head and only connect on the PCB.
No idea why a factory coil works okay with the minus RX and shield connect in the head and mine don't. I now just except that I have to make the this way.
