UA7810 would be one, it has a 2v dropout so not much of a LDO reg. can you do SMD?

yes, that is about the same as uA7810, but you will have to keep batt voltage above 12V

Yes. You might experience instability at the end of battery life. LDOs are much more expensive, yet they give you more comfort in use.

Yes, busy digesting
MPSA13 and 14 are basically the same thing for your purpose.

L7810cv is not a low dropout voltage regulator (LDO) and you should have at least 3V on top of the regulated voltage, in your case 13V or more. If it is not a problem - go for it.

No. I was considering making it with some changes, but the number of changes happen to be too many and I decided to develop a completely new thing.
Anyway, I like this project. It has the best front end of all the VLF detectors around.

Supplying a detector from 16V adapter is a bad idea. You should try batteries instead. Anything connected to mains is a great source of noise.
