Whites
I have the White Eagle Spectrum and I'd like a scematic too, it is working fine, but the control panels backlight doesn't function. I would like to know how to open the control panels case without damage, I can only see one screw underneath it. This is a great detector and I'd rather not try to open it, unless I can without damage. There is no difficulty reading the display in daylight, but in the half light of late evening, you have to use a torch to see it. I am told this is a common malady for this model. So someone must have `fixed' one sometime.
Thanks for the email tip.

Do you own any other detectors besides the Spectrum?

Thank you,
I have had a couple of other detactors, my previouse one a C-Scope, I forget the model, it worked quite well, unfortunately, being plastic cased it didn't stand rigorous use and having only it's dedicated coil limited its capability, so when the weight of sticky tape equaled it's own weight???!!
These taught me however, what to look out for when buying a detector. I selected this Whites Eagle Spectrum, because of it'd build quality, plus it has sealed buttons operating the electronics, instead of `pot's', which in damp conditions, get `scratchy', making adjustments tricky!! I have several coils to use and spare batteries. I like the Spectrums battery setup very much, when the nicads `die', the box can be easily opened and new nicads fitted. The only problem with this machine is it's backlight, which is quite livable with. It is easily the best detector I have owned. My first machine was years ago, when I was in my twenties I bought an ex WD (WWII) BFO Mine detector which was okay, it used 2 valves and detected only `metal'. It's downfall was that you needed shares in `Ever Ready' to use it!
