if i decided to alter the tx pulse width and frequency what would be the max you would advise...im not too bothered abut battery consumption...as long that i get good depth on gold rings on a wet salt beach...i want a detector that is also good at pinpointing and no ground effect from wet salt....if i increased the current from 37ma to 100ma and the frequency to 1500hz am i going to run into problems ?????

Friends, Would you please check the error. Is this the latest updated version?Attached Files

Looks reasonable, but one suggestion for bit more drawing: most resistors can be rearranged to 500mil raster, more natural and recommended, instead of 400mil, intended for 1\16W or smaller components, normal 1\4 or 1\8W size must be forced to fit, will try remake of this in Protel. Merely aesthetic rework.

i have now finished my first surf pi detector and have modified to work at 1500 hz and 100 ma current...i have now far better proformance and can detect a thin 9ct gold ring at 12 inches depth which im very pleased about....i could reduce the audio down lower using a 4024 ic but the 1500hz is just about bearable in my ear.

BUT... NOT WORK.
WHEN POWER IS ON I CAN HEAR ONLY A CONTINUOUS BEEEEEEEEPP....IF I DICONECCT THE COILS THIS SOUND STILL CONTINUE.
ALL VOLTAGES ARE NORMAL AND I CHECKED PCB, CONNECTTIONS ETC.
I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT WHAT COIL CAN I USE???
THANKS IN ADVANCE

hi Dirceu
I am having the same problem you had, as mentioned at the beginning of forum (page 1).
How do you fix the problem beeeep and low sensitivity?
thank you in advance.

Just an update on my odyssey toward a successful Surf PI build. Thanks to a couple of friends, IT IS A DONE DEAL! Yeah, second time around with the same board. In a previous incarnation best I could do was around 4-5" hooked up to a 5" copper shielded coil (folded over figure eight). Using the same coil and 5g 18k man's ring, I can now detect to around 10" or 25cms. The wiring has been simplified and it is very responsive and easy to calibrate. As per another thread, will probably replace the present delay to a 5K1 resistor with a EXTERNAL, Single Turn, 10K POT. Intend casing it for water hunting.
The increased depth seems to be related to a sweet spot on the delay. As I enter it, the steady "threshold hum changes to a pulse". If I'm outside that setting, the steady hum returns, which can be increased or cancelled through the Threshold trimpot. Is this normal? Hell, I'm not complaining over the increased depth!!!!
