The VDI circuit will only work with a VLF detector, as it relies on the input from two samples taken 90 degrees apart. From these readings the phase-angle (and hence the target ID) can be determined. The Surf-PI operates in the time domain, and cannot supply the required information necessary for target ID.

You can of course add an analog meter, but this will only show the amplitude of the received signal. Since the Surf-PI has a one-tone output for all targets, this might be beneficial as a depth indicator. For the PI detectors that have a VCO-style audio output, like the Minipulse Plus, there would be little point adding a meter.

            • yea if you can show how can make depth indicator for analog meter

              • as a person who's hearing is not standard, i can see a use for a pi depth meter, maybe you could use a vco to drive an analogue scale.

                • where i can find vco to drive an analogue scale

                  • its already there, try taking the meter feed line from after the vco, instead of before, like an audio meter, the louder the squeal the further the meter moves.
i had adapted the gold scan meter for use in the minipulse, but i'm going to completely re-think it now and try running the meter of the vco output, i understand that most wont have any interest in this, but thats ok, it wont be straight forward either, but i have dc meters, and ac audio ones as well, if i can figure out a way to post hand drawn schematics i will put in its own thread.

                    • Olá Dirceu, sei que faz alguns anos que você tocou este projeto.
Estou tentando identificar a algum tempo no Fórum qual projeto farei.

                        • Sure it's not the filter integration time coupled with the number of pulses the target is "hit by"? What I mean by this the Surf PI has a relatively low ppr so less eddy will be induced into the target if the coil is moving fast. "upping" the ppr to around 2.5k or even (scary music) 5k makes a MUCH better machine, but you need a lightning fast coil or else the whole thing just "smears" into oblivion.

It's ALL about balancing, Gain, PPR, integrator time and coil speed (mine now exceed 2MHz) in some cases.

                          • DIRCEU, I had the same problem with SMP-pi. if you put SMP in a metal box and all 4
pots touch metal box, it wont work very good.Make sure that the pots dont
                            touch metal box.

Dirceu, I have a SMP.it has 4 pots, I put it in a metal box at first
it did not work very good only buzzzed. i found that if any pot
touched metal box it would only buzzzed.if your SMP PI is in a metal
box, try it with no pot touching metal, a ground wont work.

                              • I want to replace the speaker with headphone jack. They have to make modification to the circuit.

This is the pcb of my surf pi detector.

                                My English is bad sorry.

                                Thank you
