Nice to found you here.
I´m interested to make one large coil 1x1m for my SD 2200 D Minelab pulse induction,do you know if it is possible ?
Regards
Hi Morgan
I didn't build large coil for SD 2200 yet , for other type PIs yes.
But base on theory, yes.
Please act as I say , measure original coil inductance and resistor , then equal and extend
This parameters to big coil .
Best regards.

Hi
Some years ago i saw for sale very big coil for SD,the name ZULU-SHIELD,maybe 1,5mx60cm,but now i cant find this coil for sale,so i want to build, but nobody here know how to make this ?
I have the 50 cm concentric coil but still catch iron nails from depth 40 cm,so i need biger coil to avoid small objects.
Should i open one of my smaller coils to see inside ?
Seems dificult, coil cable as five pins, each one measure between them 4.5 ohms...
Do you have some information about MINELAB SD coils ?
Hi Morgan,
For a Mono coil for a SD you require Inductance around 300 uh and resistance of .4 ohms you might have a problem finding the correct wire if using Litz type wire you would need something around 36 strands of .2 mm solder through enameled wire but you may need more strands to get the final required resistance and try to keep your shielding at least 8 mm from the coil bundle you can PM me if you like what model SD are you building for as a SD2000 requires a coil with higher Q than the others.
Regards, Ian.

Ian thanks for this precious information .
I have the model SD 2200 D,this model can use the same coils as the older model SD 2100. I want to build a square 1mx1m coil for my SD. The largest coil i have is the concentric 47,5 cm,and detect one iron nail more than 40 cm underground,i want to avoid this small rusty targets using larger coil (cant find nothing in the market,zulu-shield large coil not available).
Now i need to know connections between coil and the five pin in the cable,i imagine PI simple coil like BFO we need only two or three pin,but why need five for SD ? Do you have some more imformation ?
Hi Morgan,
In DD configuration connections as follows.
Pin 1 is RX shield and linked in the plug to pin 5.
Pin 2 is RX active.
Pin 3 is linked in plug to pin 4.
Pin 4 is TX active.
Pin 5 TX shield.
In MONO configuration.
Pins 1 and 5 linked and pin 5 connected to coax shield.
Pins 2,3 and 4 linked in the plug and pin 4 connected to coax center conductor use 1.0mm for the links hope that helps you.
Regards, Ian.
