    Fisher 1266 PART 2

kingJL , It seems in my opinion the 1265x is a better detector , and it would be the one to build . I am searching for Field Tests of both machines . I thought I saw results of both machines on a U.K. detector site a few years back ??? I will never understand why over the years people make changes to schematics and at the same time no remarks / commments or dates , or reasons of the modifications are stated . To me , that is very poor workmanship . At least when the manufacturers do it , its posted , and they call it revisions . Over the years , by the time several people change a schematic you can have a big mess . The Great News is , someone on this Geotech Forum "is always fixing someone's garbage" !!!! . And it is making a better product than the "Cloned version" and sometimes even better than the original design . Thanks again KingJL for being on this forum..........................Eugene

      Fisher 1266 PART 2

Here is some very interesting information I ran across tonight , when looking for something else !!........Did you know that Fisher came out with a very rare or "Limited Edition" or what I call , a Factory Screw up !!! There was a Fisher 1265x with a lower frequency and had special search coils , and the connectors were locking "quarter turn"...........A little bit of "Hidden History" From Fisher , now called 1st TEXASS !!!!......Regards.............Eugene52/ Generic Member/ Stalni-Clan

Sean Goddard (and anyone else interested or knowledgeable)

I have a distressed 1265 that I am refurbishing (was swallowed by hurricane Ike). I am replacing all the front panel pots (that was expected). The switches (PB bat test and Mode switch) and connectors seem to be good for now. The disc pots have some bad spots in them, the vol pot switch is bad, and the sensitivity pot is bad. Everything else seems tp be OK (aat least for the time being)

Anyway, while preparing to order the replacement pots, I have made some interesting discoveries (that somewhat surprised me):
        (1) The 2 disc pots are 5K not 10K. This is not too awful surprising as this 1265 may be an early version and looking at the circuit this should not have a significant effect. I am going to replace with 10K.
        (2) The 2 disc pots are logrithmic taper. Now, that did surprise me!!!!
        (3) The volume pot (10K) is linear taper. Again surprised!

I am having trouble locating a replacement for the sensitivity pot (100K) with the P/P switch. I can substitute here if I can't find one with the 1/4" bushing and 1/8" shaft as the original.

        Regards,
        J. L. King

Is this just a plain 1265?
The official schematic (REV F) for the 1265-X shows 10k pots for DISC1, DISC2 and volume. No mention of logarithmic.

I know, that is why I was surprised.

Qiaozhi, Do you have a copy of this revision? If so could you please post or send me a copy? I have either REV A or D (label is fuzzy).

It was too big to scan as one sheet.
Had to split into two parts.

Thank you very much. It is much easier to read than the one I had. And the one that I had is rev A.

                  Thanks again,

                        Qiaozhi,

Thanks! At first look this is the correct schematic.

With a little delay, i would like to thank you Quiaozhi for posting finally correct schematic. Previously posted were inaccurate...almost by the rule!
Despite the fact 1265/66 was really nice machine, i never liked Fisher's way of arranging pcb's and components on those. Clearances also...
Yet aint no doubts those are high quality, i must agree on that. I always wanted to make homemade 1265. Once i did that according to Jackdetect's pcb traces. Had a lot of troubles with soldering some pins on both sides of pcb. So.. that handmade i just abandoned and scraped it...
But now, thanks to this pretty clear schematic i decide to do it again. Simple method; single layer pcb's with wire jumpers - extremly easy to make it.
Only one mod on pcb; i projected 2 junctions which can be used by the choice - dependably on crystal available. So man can put junction on one of two 4024 outputs. Crystal of 40kHz would be the best choice, although 32kHz can do the job just fine..
Consider this as my gift to you for Christmass...
                                Enjoy!
