Jonas, you burn out the people can you share the photos of more good quality? (in mail) btw, I noted Eric F. also uses MOS-FET in DIP-4.

      CS6PI

Jonas , They are Beautiful Photos but , the IC # of U4 and U5 , is not clear . Anyway , If you have more time ?? You are welcome to e-mail "Digital Quality" of both sides to [email protected] . Also transistor numbers and capacitor values , I do not ask for much !!!! Please , Be carefull when posting these here on this forum !!! Someone we know from the U.K. , likes to have a Cow when certain things are posted , Hint-Hint ..........Thank-You Jonas , Have a Great Day !!!!!!!!!!......................Eugene

        CS6PI

Hello , I can not find any Field Tests for the CS6pi !!! However , I did find the field test for the CS4pi and it is a very good P.I. Machine , no discrimination , but it has Great Depth . If the "CS6pi" has equal or Greater Depth than the CS4pi , It is worth building !!!! And should be on the list after Ivconics TESORO GOLDEN SABRE LIGHT-1265 .....If anyone finds the CS6pi field tests , Please post here ..............Thank-You..............Eugene

          CS6PI

Hello again , After searching I found good and bad reports on this CS6pi Metal Detector. If someone wants to build this , it has to be Modified a bit. It has a 555 timer chip and the fastest pulse delay was measured at 17 u.s . on an un-touched "un-moded" unit........Another forum member a few years back said it can be moded down to 7.5 u.s. by making some improvements to the search coil. So this detector does have potential , but I still need to see some field tests of coins and or gold jewelry in the Ground !!!!!.........I will now wait for other Members to comment..........Bye..........Eugene

            Hello Eugene,
Some time ago (years???) ,in geotech forum i have see the cs6 schematic , but i did not find in my electronic archive , to morrow i will see in my paper if i have it ,

Alexis, it was CS5MX schematic and Carl deleted it because was under a copyright.
I see CS6 is a PI kinda sort of 'with hight resistance coil'. (approx. 50 Ohm)
the schematic is simple and clear for me looking the photos.
                regards

                      CS6PI Information

                      Jonas,

The CS6PI, contrary to what the marketing literature says about it being a powerful PI detector, it is of the low power design. There is a resistor in series with a 10 ohm coil that has about 30 turns of AWG30 magnet wire. This coil will not operate much below about 15 micro seconds (us). The MOSFET is a 4-leg low power type that handles a peak flyback voltage of about 80V with a low peak coil current being about 100ma.

The frequency control adjusts the PPS rate, pulse width and delay. At the fastest PPS speed the TX pulse width is about 50us with a main delay of about 15us to 17us. C19 sets the frequency range and can be changed to a smaller value in the range of 680pf to 720pf (mica for stability) to approximately double the PPS frequency range (to about 13.5KPPS) and reduce the delay down to about 7.5us for small gold objects. At the max frequency with a delay of 7.5us the pulse width is about 22us. A 1000pf mica will put you in the 10KPPS range with the pulse width being approximately 30us with a 10us main delay.

A different low capacitance, fast, mono coil needs to be made to operate at this low delay range. I can detect a U.S. nickel to about 14" using this modification on the CS6PI with a 10.5" diameter coil, 300uH with 19 turns. Keep the new coil coax short to make a direct connection to the control box with about 30" to 32" of coax cable.

Change the first amp stage by adding a DIP socket and instert a NE5534A in the socket, tantalum caps on the +/- DC supply, enlarge the TX electrolytic caps to about 1000uf or what ever will physically fit.

Do not try to change the coil series resistor as the MOSFET will not handle much higher power. The series resistor along with the coil resistance, and MOSFET on-resistance makes the total TX circuit resistance of about 60 ohms to enable a faster turn on. The coil current rise TC is 5us (300 / 60). With a pulse width of 22us the coil current will reach about 97% of maximum current.

You will need a scope to investigate the operation of this PI machine before and after the modification. You will need to optimize the value of the damping resistor to match the new faster mono coil.

Go to Eric Fosters PI web site and search on "CS6PI". You will find some additional information as Eric is the designer of this circuit for C Scope.
