  • Metal Detector Coil booster

I have been hearing about a coil booster, or a audio booster that goes in between the coil and the control box. I think that I am saying this right, if not then please let me know what it is called. If you know what I am talking about. Does anyone have any schematics for this type of device. I would like to take a look at it and understand it more. Thanks for any replies. Have a good X-mas and a happy new year.

WOW all these views and no one has any advice, Thanks guys. Maybe I am asking the wrong thing, or I have the name wrong.

Haven't heard of this. Yes, you can amplify the TX signal on a VLF detector and maybe get a little extra depth, but you better have a coil with a really good null or you will overload the preamp.

          devros,

you think here seating idiots? yeah?...

in my opinion what you call the 'coil booster' is some kinda END DRIVER for TX with HIGHER POWER SUPPLY than ordinary you have. so you get MORE current value in TX coil and it gives you some benefit.

          nothing of magic!

          be enduring

I simply just wanted an answer. Never called anyone an Idiot, did I? In fact I think I said I was maybe wrong. I'm not sure what I was asking, I had someone write me asking me about it, and didn't know where else other than here to ask. This is the place to go when you need something technical about MD's right. Sorry but I didn't want the answer to sit here for a month or more like other "stupid" questions, how they go unanswered because you people think that they are to stupid to answer. Well believe me wont ask another question here again. Thanks for the response though, I do appreciate your time coming down to my level to answer such a question. I know how busy you must be. Again thank you.

I think the real reason you did not get an immediate answer is that your question is somewhat vague. Any booster circuit would need to be designed for a particular metal detector, and you did not give any specifics.

It might also be that you are referring to an audio booster, or signal enhancer. This device helps to increase faint target signals, but it also increases the background noise. Alternatively there are devices known as nugget boosters, designed to work with Minelab detectors. You can see one here -> http://www.vkteksolutions.com/
I don't know anything about this device, but looking at the plug and socket arrangement it appears to fit between the electronics enclosure and the coil.

There is no magic box you can put on your coil and make things cookies and cream.

If there was everyone would have one.

Every systems has limits and producers would move them up if they could.

You can only pump out so much energy to a coil and have things ballance out and work.

Like the PI you can pump out so much, but the receive end has to keep up with the signal and you may set up a ring in the ground with enough power and it would be fruitless to do so!

If you want to improve things, work on the receive section.

                Faster! Less Noise!

Oh yes that's what I was asking about, exactly that. Thank you.

I'm not really looking for anything to make it cookie's and cream. I just wanted info on this device, it was for an answer for someone else. Again I am sorry that I didn't know what it was called, but Qiaozhi knew exactly what I was talking about. Again sorry but a little patience goes a long ways, I thank everyone for their comments and help. I will just back to lurking

Most likely, this is an audio booster. M/L uses a circular connector on their headphone/battery pack similar to a coil connector. 2 pins are battery, 2 pins are audio.

Many years ago there was an in-line audio booster called the "Depth Master" for detectors.

That conclusion seems to make the most sense. Trying to boost the TX output could easily overload the preamp, and any attempt to add further amplification to the RX signal is likely to cause instability.

For example, in a 2 box (only transistors) I repeat the first stage and the gain is very remarcable. Don't know if you can make it with ICs... Also maybe for 2 box detector work this implementation due the separation of coils.

                            Metal Detector Coil Booster

                            Hi Devros,

Is this what you are looking for?

Detect Deeper with the Sovereign Amplifier
For the Minelab Sovereign (All Models)

With the never ending quest to detect deeper, the only options were try a larger coil or spend thousands on the latest and greatest new detector. For Minelab Sovereign owners there is now a new option to detect deeper. The Sovereign Amplifier will provide the extra depth previously unavailable by any means. After two years of testing and development the Sovereign Amplifier in now ready.

The Sovereign Amplifier is a battery powered amplifier that takes the normal signal that the detector puts out and amplifies it to a higher voltage to drive the coil. This will create a larger magnetic field around the coil to penetrate deeper into the ground. The amplifier will enable your Sovereign to detect objects 3-4 inches deeper than normal. The amplifier has an adjustable power setting to vary the power to the coil. It has a power button to turn the Amp on/off. When the amp is off the detector works as normal with no loss of depth and it does not require the external battery. There is a power indicator that lights when ever the amplifier power button is depressed. The power light will only come on only when the external battery is connected and the detector is connected and turned on. The Amplifier comes with a 2.2 Amp hour Li-Ion Battery that last 12 hours on the maximum power setting. The battery is housed in a plastic box with a belt clip. There is a stretchable cord that connects the battery box to the amp while the box is mounted to your belt. The Amp also comes with a Li-Ion battery charger that will charge the battery in approximately 6 hours. The battery charger connects to the battery box cable, there is no need to remove the battery for charging. The charger works from 100VAC to 240VAC input. The Amp mounts to the detector shaft with two re-usable plastic mounting straps. It can be used with meters and probes, just connect the meter or probe between the Amplifier and the Detector. The Amplifier comes with a 1 year warranty

Amplifier: The Amplifier is a custom designed circuit that uses the latest in switching power supply technology. It will duplicate the coil drive signal from the detector with high precision. The signal strength is adjustable for various ground conditions. This larger signal will create a larger more powerful magnetic field around the coil to detect deeper. The Amp can be powered off with the convenient power switch. The Amp, when powered off and the battery disconnected, will enable the Detector function normally with no loss of depth while the Amp is connected.

Battery: 2.2 Amp Hour Li-Ion Battery. This is the latest technology in batteries and will last over 12 hours on a single charge. Made of three 2200mAh cylindrical 18650 cells with PCB and poly switch for full protection. It is light weight and higher energy density than any other type of rechargeable battery. It has Longer storage life than NiMH batteries. It has a built-in IC chip will prevent battery pack from over charge and over discharge and prolongs battery life.

Charger: The Amp comes with a TLP-2000 Universal Smart Charger for Li-Ion Batteries. It runs from 100V - 240V AC input for worldwide power usage. It has 4 Voltage selections at 3.7v 7.4v 11.1v and 14.8v. It needs to be in the 11.1V position to charge the Amplifier Battery. It has a LED indicator: Red means "In Charging" and Green means "Full" or "open circuits".

Box/Cables: The circuitry is housed in a sealed black PVC box. The box will keep out dust, sand, and light moisture but is not waterproof. The cables use the highest quality connectors and and have durable strain reliefs at all connection points. The Battery Box comes with a belt clip to conveniently and comfortably mount on a belt or pocket so that it is out of the way while swinging and bending. The stretchable battery cord will not interfere with your swing and will stretch enough that the detector can be put down while digging if needed.

Meters/Probes: Meters and Probes can be used with the Amp. The need to be connected inline between the Amp and Detector. Meters may read slightly different when the Amp is powered on.

Warranty: The Sovereign Amplifer and Its components come with a 1 year warranty.

Coil Limitations: The Amplifier cannot be used with Detech Concentric Coils.

in my opinion he is looking for additional 1 inch on deep on a coin. maybe 2 inches. sovereign is a deep killer without these upgrades. I feel very ilness after hunter day digging these deeper holes. hands fall off!
