  • Good News about the Mark 1

    Hi All,

I just received an email from George Payne indicating that he may be releasing the schematic of the Mark 1 into public domain shortly. The schematic I have is very faded and very large, but hope to get a new one shortly. I am not sure if George is going to have the schematic scanned or just release a copy of the original schematic.

Once I know more, I will let people know.

Is it possible to invite him here? To come and join this forum? Most of good schematics i collected so far are under his signature, so that man is most interesting person for me, refering schematics and articles with metal detectors theory.
Would be splendid to gather all schematics he draw so far, on one place, under one topic here on these forums.
I am hoping that he has more schematics than we seen so far. How to get few of those? (those unpublished yet)
BTW pass him my Best Regards and many Thanks for schematics posted so far.

          Hi,

George Payne was nice enough to have the Mark 1 schematic scanned and converted to a PDF file. Unfortunately, it was too large to upload, so I have tried to reduce the size. In the process there is a further reduction in the quality which wasn't that good to begin with.

So for the time being, the attached file is the best I can do.

            Hi Reg.
Also you can upload it here via Imageshack, so no problem with big size of the file.
            Anyway a Big Thanks.

            Regards

I just saw schematic. Interesting. At some parts reminds me on some White's?
I don't have any experience with this detector. Is it good? Comparing to White's 6000...worse,same,better?

The Mark 1 has often been described as the best designed detector ever built. It was years ahead of anything else like it. In fact, many people still use it today and often compare it to some of today's best and newest products.

Considering the Mark 1 was built around 1984 or so, it shows just how great it was for its time.

I still have one of my original Mark 1's and won't part with it.

Is this one on photo? What is that dark square "screen"? Scale or ...?
Now i am "itched" ! I always liked good old nonmotions!
Is it possible somehow to see original pcb print? Maybe we can try to make that detector. From schematic i see all common components. Any details on coil?
Since it was produced back in '80. i don't think we will harm any copyright. Hopefully we can have all tech details, draws, prints etc... posted here.
Personaly i would like to try to build it.

A bit better. Still there are misty areas. Tough to recover some details...
