The (R)EMI group seeking the following two articles:
    1. Macario, R.C.V.; Discriminative Metal Detector, Wireless World, Jul. 1978, vol. 84, No. 1511. pp. 43-46
    and
    2. Samain M. D.; Discriminative Metal Detector, Wireless World, October 1978, pp 57-58.
Please if anyone has these files, send them to me on my email

The Macario's metal detector produces some discussion about the possibility of discrimination. The article has 2 parts: The circuit and explanations and the second part, the letter by a person who put in doubt this... The article is from university in UK.

Seems is a discriminative BFO, with some differences, but don't remember well. I have this in some of many CDs about MD info. No in computer for to prevent crashes.

Esteban, we have the circuit diagram from a German book, but we need a description in English.

And 2 pages of discussion. Don't found the CD, but I have in paper and scan those. Sorry quality. But here are discussions and improvements.

              Thank you people!
My opinion was that the (R)EMI group waste time in a survey of ancient BFO MD, instead of dealing with major circuits and designs.
It turned out however that I am wrong, because in 1978, it is engaged in the University of Salford and in University College of Swansea.
The (R)EMI group believes that by use of 4046 for frequency control, Macario was created in 1978 the first Motion BFO MD.

I was just about to post this information.
Anyway, here's a clearer copy in PDF format.

                  Waddington 1977

                  R.C.V.Macario wrote in 1978:
"ARTICLE by D.E.O'N. Waddington in Wireless World April 1977 was interesting because outlined the rules by which metal detection may be legally carried out, and also showed how the sensitivity of search coil alters with size. The sensitivity was discussed in terms of change in resonant frequency from a nominal value, which was shown to be a few hertz for a small object."
So my next request is for ARTICLE by D.E.O'N. Waddington (title unknown) in Wireless World April 1977.
                  TNX in advance!

                    Waddington 1977

                    The article was entitled:

                    Metal detector

B.f.o. circuit using fifth search oscillator harmonic for enhanced sensitivity

                    by D. E. O'N. Waddington M.I.E.R.E.

Not sure if it's OK to post it here but I've scanned it and emailed it to mikebg.

It's not the totality of the magazine (a couple of pages), and is expressly for academic discussion. Clear cut case of fair use. It's unfortunate that the copyright barons have managed to scare everybody to otherwise.

Now that it was mentioned, I'm interested in seeing it myself. If you do not want post it, email me a copy.

Fully agree. It is not to start production according mentioned article but for study purposes. So please post it here to all.

I should point out that the regulations have changed since 1977. For one thing, a licence is no longer required.
